I'm considering going with a .tk domain because it's free, but I've heard a lot of negative things about it. For one: a lot of review sites say that the domain scares people away from visiting your site. Some reviews I've read online (including Wikipedia), say that a lot of bad websites are hosted with the .tk domain. Wikipedia even said that .tk is a globally blacklisted domain! Meaning it would be easier for people to be turned off to visiting a .tk domain for fear of spyware and viruses.
I was going to use freedomain.co.nr as I have always had good service with them, but I signed up too fast. Instead of waiting until I had my website up and running smoothly, I signed up right after I had signed up for Zymic Hosting. Then I switched from Zymic to Gigalicous (one of the best decisions of my life, seriously!).
Free Domain didn't used to review their new members. Now they actually have to review and accept requests. Since I signed up too soon (before I switched to Gigalicous) I made a couple of mistakes in signing up:
- I signed up for freedomain.co.nr with the Zymic Host URL.
- I didn't have my website up and running smoothly so it just looked crappy.
Nonetheless, they never responded back which is supposed to mean I got rejected... Oh well, I mean there are other free domains and subdomains I can choose like .tk or others.
What is .tk really like? Are they dependable? Do they really have such a bad reputation that other review sites have given them or is that just a load of garbage? Would .tk be a good option for me running a blog related to the game (Stardoll) that I play?
A lot of people who have similar Stardoll related blogs use Blogger, but I wanted to be different. I know how to code and don't personally like Blogger's interface. I like to do things differently which is why I chose a legit webhost (thanks Gigalicous!). Now I'm trying to get a free domain or subdomain that's easy to remember. I even have a difficult time remembering .gi9.co (no offense!) myself.
