Where can I get a cheap domain?

#31
I'm the same as you Wifi, where I tend to be loyal to one provider, and stick with them as long as the going is good. But depending on how frequently one needs to buy domains, it may be a good idea to have an account with more than one domain registrar. Namecheap.com seems to be a good registrar. I don't think it is as good in overall as Godaddy, but it does come up with some great offers periodically.
#32
godaddy is doing a promotion for £1.29 for .com ... but i decided to stick with namecheap when registering my new domain even though it was £7.
#33
That's quite a difference Suhaib. Did you check the exact amount it would have been at Godaddy for the specific name you registered with Namecheap? Could be that it had special added value or something?
#34
A free domain of course. Pardon
#35
Never go with the cheapest offers always pay for the best service whether it takes extra money!
#36
I'll probably go for a big name like Godaddy or NameCheap. Whichever of the two are the cheapest. Still have to do my research for a name though. May start with .tk just initially until we're up and running.

the only cheap paid domain registrar is 1&1. And the best free domain is .tk . I am using .tk for 3 yrs . there is a great things on .tk is you can have as many as domain you want. now I have over 10 domains. If you wish you can get paid domain which offer you the whois control. Pleasantry

I've never heard of 1&1 before. I'll go check it out. So far namecheap.com has been the recommended cheap paid domain.

Just checked it and you're right. Those are good prices.

1 & 1 are a well known hosting and domains provider, I simply do not like them because their ACP sucks balls and support staff are clueless. Cannot falter their pricing which are reasonable.
Please do NOT contact me via PM for support request`s, use the support forum instead, you will get a faster response.

Thanks for the feedback Chris. I was seriously thinking about making a purchase, however support to me is essential. Namecheap already isn't quite in the class of Godaddy, as far as service is concerned, even though it's cheaper. Probably will stay with Godaddy. I'd say for the extra bit in price, support is always worth it for me.

Crazydomains are good only for domains as they have very stupid and careless hosting support.

I think DNS afraid is bad because recently has been ddosed and the website is down

I'm considering going with a .tk domain because it's free, but I've heard a lot of negative things about it. For one: a lot of review sites say that the domain scares people away from visiting your site. Some reviews I've read online (including Wikipedia), say that a lot of bad websites are hosted with the .tk domain. Wikipedia even said that .tk is a globally blacklisted domain! Meaning it would be easier for people to be turned off to visiting a .tk domain for fear of spyware and viruses.

I was going to use freedomain.co.nr as I have always had good service with them, but I signed up too fast. Instead of waiting until I had my website up and running smoothly, I signed up right after I had signed up for Zymic Hosting. Then I switched from Zymic to Gigalicous (one of the best decisions of my life, seriously!).

Free Domain didn't used to review their new members. Now they actually have to review and accept requests. Since I signed up too soon (before I switched to Gigalicous) I made a couple of mistakes in signing up:

  1. I signed up for freedomain.co.nr with the Zymic Host URL.
  2. I didn't have my website up and running smoothly so it just looked crappy.

Nonetheless, they never responded back which is supposed to mean I got rejected... Oh well, I mean there are other free domains and subdomains I can choose like .tk or others.

What is .tk really like? Are they dependable? Do they really have such a bad reputation that other review sites have given them or is that just a load of garbage? Would .tk be a good option for me running a blog related to the game (Stardoll) that I play?

A lot of people who have similar Stardoll related blogs use Blogger, but I wanted to be different. I know how to code and don't personally like Blogger's interface. I like to do things differently which is why I chose a legit webhost (thanks Gigalicous!). Now I'm trying to get a free domain or subdomain that's easy to remember. I even have a difficult time remembering .gi9.co (no offense!) myself.

I think that's what I'm going to do since I've heard so many negative things about .tk. That and you guys already offer great hosting along with a great community. It would be nice to have a free domain with you too :P Now to get up to 1000 points... *sigh* Looks like I have a long way to go. Then again, I'm on here several times a day so maybe it'll be easier than it looks Biggrin

I personally think that the best one is GoDaddy. They make a lot of promotions and you can get a really cheap domain.
I've never encountered problems with them.

True, soon enough Biggrin

If you want to buy a domain name,I would suggest to get it from 9cubehosting.com at reasonable price. They provide good service with reliability.
#53
I like Namecheap.com. But I usually check all of them out when I'm looking for a domain. May just get lucky with any one of them as they all have some deals from time to time.
#54
Yes, shopping around so as to make an informed choice can often pay off.

I've used GoDaddy before, but now I'm thinking about using a .tk domain. Are there any catches I need to be aware of when using .tk, other than the fact that some people my not consider .tk sites as reputable as .com sites, for example. Is it really "free". Are there any other requirements to meet in order to keep the domain active (other than annual renewals, for instance)? Are their requirements for certain numbers of monthly visits to the web site, does the web site have to conform to any particular criteria? And can I register the .tk domain to use the Gigalicous 'A' records?
#56
I have three dot.tk domains and I'm very happy with them. As long as one is not thinking of making them very popular, i.e. with huge SEO, then you're OK. As I've heard people complaining that they lost their popular Websites after they had worked so hard on the SEO. But if you're going to use it for personal use only, then it is just the right ticket. It is super fast, and the name servers usually are propagated almost immediately.

Another thing I had to watch out for was selecting one year for the registration as it defaults to three months. And to diarize the renewal date as I think one can only renew within one month of the renewal date.

Thanks, Genesis. I'll go head and sign up for a .tk domain, and report back here to let others know if I have any problems with it.

Yeah, I have several dot.tk domains that I use for sites that aren't intended for a lot of traffic and there have been no problems. You're right about the renewal and three months issues but other than that it's hard to imagine being able to get a domain name in service any simpler or faster. Just make sure that you get something (even just a single page) online that's using that domain asap, because they'll suspend you if you don't keep a site up with one their domains. It happened to me because I didn't realize how soon you had to use the domain, but I emailed them and they had it back up right away.

godaddy is terrible. i purchased a domain with them and within a day they emailed me saying if i don't send them a photo of my passport or ID card they're going to terminate my domain. which they did because there is no way i'm going to send anyone those.

I signed up for a free .tk domain. The only catch seems to be that they own the domain name, and have the right to take it away from you at any time or start charging you for it, which seems to happen for domains that get a lot of traffic. They no longer have a minimum traffic requirement for the domain, but you are required to renew it within a certain number of days of the time when it comes up for renewal. You can set the renewal period for up to 12 months. Other than that it was very straightforward to set up and integrate with Gigalicous. I set up two .tk domains, both specifying 'Custom DNS' and pointed them to the Gigalicous name servers. In cPanel, I set up one of them as a Parked Domain, to point to my main site, and the other as an Add-On domain, to point to a particular project under my main site.
