I guess the moral of the story ilsaul is nothing is "free". It is obvious dot.tk is in the business of making money with the domains. And they are using people to make it for them. Now it is up to us to read the rules properly so we know what the limitations are. As long as it is "free domain", dot.tk can ask it back at any time. Or not renew it.

Compare it with renting a house and upgrading everything in the house with a brand-new roof, new garden, painting all the rooms, totally renovating it and adding a million dollars to the value of the house. The owner is not indebted to you for doing that, as that is not in your rental lease, you chose to do it regardless of the house not really belonging to you. You're only supposed to live there and then either renew the lease or move on. As long as you just live there and the value of the house stays the same, the owner will probably keep you there forever. But if you added so much value to the house to the extent that it would be lucrative for the owner to make money out of it, the owner would be a good business man for giving you the notice that is stipulated in the lease, and then sell the house at a really good price. That is precisely what is happening with dot.tk domains. Dot.tk wants you to add maximum value to your .tk domain so that it can "sell" it at a bigger price. So as long as you just use the dot.tk domain as a personal domain adding very little value to it with little traffic, your dot.tk domain is safe. But as soon as you start to add lots of value to it, you're pretty much running the risk of losing the dot.tk domain. So if you are planning to add lots of value to a domain, dot.tk is not the domain you should be using for it.

Bottom line, Dot.tk is excellent for quick domains that won't increase in value. It is super fast and works well, even better than some of the big name registrars like Namecheap. The name servers are propagated almost immediately after registering the domain.. I like the short .tk extension. I've had my two main dot.tk domains for two years since .co.cc went bust. Dot.tk is an improvement for me over .co.cc. I'm happy dot.tk is making money, as as long as it is, then I get to keep my free dot.tk domains and I can create as many new dot.tk domains as I like. Towards the end of .co.cc i was only able to have two free .co.cc domains.. If dot.tk should go bust however, or wanted my domains because the name of my domains has come into demand, I'll be OK as I see the domains as temporary and not owned by me. If I do find a name that I value one day and a domain I'd like to keep for as long as I can, I'll go for the a domain like .com or .co.uk and pay in as long as advance as I possibly can.

If you want to buy a domain name,I would suggest you to get it from Tucktail.com at reasonable price. They provide good service with reliability.
#66
I agree price is a major factor. However if you own many domain names, you guys should definitely consider buying through DirectNic.com. They are well worth the money and have been offering great service for over a decade. I feel 5 bucks more a year is well worth it if you have history with a company.

Dynadot.com is a good place for affordable domain names.

For a quality post it would probably help to tell us why you think it is a good place for a domain name. We need to see at least some discussion in your posts.

godaddy always work for me... they has cheap domain ... but maybe you should try buying hosting that include free domain packages
#70
Namecheap... they have these special deals now and then where they offer domains at half the price or less. If you don't need the domain right away it's a good option. I always wait for their sale, at least the first year is cheaper.

Godaddy used to be the most talked about until they announced support for sopa & pipa. So someone created a boycott website and asked people to transfer domains from godaddy to others, http://godaddyboycott.org/. After that the recent breach, http://www.theverge.com/2014/1/29/535686...ddy-paypal.

If you want the cheapest domains then go to namesilo, http://www.namesilo.com/pricing.php and they include free whois privacy. The only drawback with namesilo is that they offer only top level TLD's.

So if you want other TLD's then the next cheapest are namecheap & name.com but you have to pay extra for whois privacy.

If you want more features than go with gandi.net, http://www.gandi.net/domain/details as they offer 1 SSL, 5 email accounts based on your domain and also DotClear2 blog with 1GB disk space & 10GB limit.

I`ve heard people mention Namesilo before but never used them personally. Now gandi.net I would RECOMMEND you stay well clear from, their support is the worst i`ve ever encountered.

You can get a free top-level domain from DotTK (.tk) which I find it pretty cool as most free domain providers provide second-level domains or domains with annoying names.
#74
Search on Google to find best cheap/offerd domain registration. Even though I would say to use Godaddy and use any promo code on checkout for more discount.

I just came across a site name Freenom.com which has free domains. It is easy to get and you can keep renewing the terms. Check it out and let me know how you feel about it.

Domaincheap used to be very good - still has some good prices, but they seem to be charging for private registration these days whereas in the old days it used to be free.

I just checked it out. Looks a bit expensive to me in comparison with Namecheap.

Cheapdomain.com $1.99 USD

Checked it out. .com is available for $8.99 - however, where at namecheap.com one can get the privacy option bundled in, at cheapdomain.com it is $1.95 extra. So works out more expensive.

I tried it with webcmunity.com

At cheapdomain.com with the privacy option it will be $10.94
At namecheap.com with the privacy option $10.69
At godaddy.com with the privacy option $23.98 (godaddy wants $10.99 for privacy option Shock)
#88
Now Freenom Get of these domains. They free! .tk .ml .ga .cf .gq
#89
Godaddy.com is currently doing a promotion where you can get a .com domain for only 99 cents plus ICAN fee
#90
Want my Input:

1&1 Sucks
Namecheap is Ok
Godaddy Is suggested

Also currently own a .ga free but once I can, I'll get a .com or .org from here
when I can get there.
