How to host apache, MySQL and other such things on your computer.

#1
In this thread I will be explaining how to host an Apache Server or MySQL on your computer.

Please note that this tutorial is for beginners, and there is most certainly better ways to host on your computer than the method used in this thread.

Step 1: Installing the XAMPP installer from Apache Friends.
Begin with going to this website, you should see a video called "Introduction to XAMPP". Under that video there should be a section with a big text saying "Download". simply press on the button to download XAMPP for your OS. After that a .exe file should start downloading, for those who don't trust .exe files, this .exe file won't do any damage to your computer, once the file has downloaded, simply press the file to open it. A window should appear saying "Do you allow this app to make changes to your device", simply press "Yes". Then the  Bitnami logo should appear on the screen, and after a few seconds the Bitnami logo should disappear and a text box saying "Important! Because an activated User Account Control (UAC) on your system some functions of XAMPP are possible restricted. With UAC please avoid to install XAMPP to C:\Program Files (missing write permissions). Or deactivate UAC with msconfig after this setup.", simply press "OK"

Step 2: Using the setup to install XAMPP on your computer.
A window called "Setup" should appear on your screen with a text saying "Welcome to the XAMPP setup wizard". simply press "Next" in the lower part of the window. You should now get a page called "Select Components". On this page you choose what you want to be installed with XAMPP, I recommend that you leave everything on that page as it is. Simply press "Next" to continue the setup. Now you should see a page called "Installation Folder". On this page you can choose where you'd like XAMPP to be installed. Simply choose a location that is not located in "C:\Program Files", then press "Next" to continue the setup. You should now see a page mentioning Bitnami for XAMPP, and a check box. You can choose whether to leave it checked or uncheck it. Then, simply press "Next" to continue the setup. You should now see a page with a text saying "Setup is now ready to begin installing XAMPP on your computer.", simply press "Next". You should now see a page with a progress bar that shows you how the installation is going, simply wait for XAMPP to install automatically. Once the installation has finished you should see a page saying "Setup has finished installing XAMPP on your computer." and a check box saying "Would you like to start the control panel now?", I usually uncheck this box. Then, simply press "Finish".

Step 3: using XAMPP and adding the files for the website you'd like to host.
Navigate to the folder where you installed XAMPP and open "xampp-control.exe".
A window should appear asking you what language you want, simply choose a language and press "Save". Now a window should appear. In this window start the Apache service. Now open a new tab in your browser and in the top, enter "localhost". You should now see the defualt XAMPP page for Apache. Simply go back to the folder where you installed XAMPP and find a folder called "htdocs", open that folder and delete everything inside, then put the files for the website you'd like to host in the folder and reload the page. Bam the website should be there. But only you can see it. To make others see it, you must open your website to the world by portforwarding, but I'm not gonna take that in this post.

Thanks for reading. Have a great day, if you encounter any problems, feel free to ask in the comments, if I don't answer someone else in this lovely community probably will. So have a good day.

Thanks for the tutorial. Sometimes tinkering with the real website might be harmful. A small offline setup is needed in our PC before we try it out in the web.
