Yes, I think both drain too much battery. At least I see that happen on my smartphone. That's why I don't have facebook messenger, and disabled the fb app. If I need to check facebook, I will check it on my browser.

I decided to delete my Facebook completely honestly. The apps on the other hand did eat up my battery (for both that is). Personally, Facebook is stupid now so I'd suggest deleting the app so you can save your battery. :)

I don't think that's the problem... Mine is fairly new and it drains the battery so much, it's unreal. Instagram is even worse...

I use Facebook only at home or when I have an internet connection via wifi because I dont have free internet on my phone. That is a great option as the facebook is boring now a days and your friends can wait.

If anyone's interested there's a Facebook Lite app. It is more lightweight and uses far less internet bandwidth. Although it is theoretically available exclusively in some poorer countries (It says that it is incompatible with your phone), you may try to find its mirror and check it out.

https://play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.facebook.lite

I am using CM Browser and surf on FB traditionally, so I do not use it, but I have installed it some time ago and can say it looks pretty good!

I think there are too many issues with the coding behind the app - for both iPhone and Android. I have a group on Facebook with 20,000 + members and have to help people all the time. A lot of the latest issues was with some people on iOS not being able to tag people - still cannot get that fixed, but if they do not use the app and use safari or google chrome to use Facebook.com they can tag people
