Changing the Date of your Blog Post`s

I`ve noticed on several websites that have changed older posts dates to more recent dates helps them rank better in Google.

Is this a flaw in Google`s much guarded algorithms?

Here`s an example: http://www.tripwiremagazine.com/2013/07/html5-templates.html is ranking on the first page for "free html5 templates"

Look at the date posted and then look through the comment dates.

I`ve seen this happen multiple times on various websites.

I've also noticed it, particularly last year in July with FFS. We had date issues, and all of a sudden our visitors for the day quadrupled. Through a technical fault. Wonder whether some do that on purpose. Also wonder whether Google will wake up to this, or may even have done so already, and is working on a way to penalize those Websites?

Odd - wouldn't that bump the blog post further up their list of posts. Perhaps they updated the post with new links and wanted to bump it up in their blog listing?

Yes, and then usually that is the way people like me who posted discovered the error.
