Cheap(er) server / development machine

For those of us who are still not ready to plunge 100% into the cloud-based world, or just need a machine with (and uses) a lot of power, I just get used server equipment from eBay. One tool that I use to compare the different eBay listing is Lab Gopher (https://uk.labgopher.com/). It's nice to know that you can get a server with 512GB of RAM for less than $2000. Imagine all the VMs you can spin up locally! Protip: most of the cheaper servers are ancient. If you want more recent systems, look for "v2" or "v3" suffix in the CPU names.

I do not have any relationships with this website.

OK, maybe I'm a noob or may be misunderstood but 512MB memory doesn't look much to me. Like it looks much too little for that price for a server! I wouldn't even consider a server under 16 GB RAM, preferably 32 GB RAM.
