Compiling MySQL

Hello,
I am compiling and installing LAMP stack on my centos VPS. I am manually installing mysql to /usr/local/mysql directory. But after installing, I can't start the service using following command:
#service mysqld start
It says service not found
However, i can start it using #/usr/local/mysql/bin/mysql-server start
How can I start this using the 'service' command?

Hello,

@Gigagreg- I am compiling and installing MySQL from source using ./configure command. Thanks for the URL though..
@"un4saken" - I had installed apache using yum install. And it works fine with #service httpd start
So, service is installed and working. All I want to know is how to link the manual MySQL install with the 'service' command.

I am sorry that I can't run the command you provided since I lost connection to my server for now. I will update once I get it back online.

Thanks for your concern. Toady you lend a hand, tomorrow you get it back.
