Crypto Phones - do you own one? :>)

I'm in the process of watching The Fifth Estate - real life story about Julian Assange's unmasking of some nasty global Government and Corporation secrets. I've only started watching, but every now and then he asks the person he is going to phone whether they have a crypto phone. :p

So am wondering whether there is any one here who is using a crypto phone? Apparently it only works if the recipient's phone is also a crypto phone. Sounds like an awesome phone to have however. Is it really that secure, and wonder what the price tag would be of one of those?

They sell phone now designed to encrypt you messages and calls. At one time, it was a device you could attach to the phone. I know at one time, there was a program for MSN that encrypt your messages. I am sure that you can also find software now for phones.

Interesting. Makes me feel better that that option is available. One reason why I've never got a smart phone so far. Just hate how vulnerable it is for hacking and tracking. Not that I have anything to hide, but I like my right to privacy.

I know what you mean. I haven't had a cell for2 months now and it feels great. But when I did have one, I disabled all the tracking stuff I could. They could still track me by the cell tower, but only to within 3 miles. Now both the Canadian and American government are pushing a a bill through so they don't need a warrant to monitor all communications. So I can see the sales increasing on these phones

No, but it sounds like a cool phone to have! I bet they don't sell them in cellphone carrier stores, like they do with other phones.

Agreed. I haven't seen any yet in regular stores. I suspect one would have to go to a special store to get it. Or maybe get it online.

They can get closer than that. not GPS accurate, but I've seen it hit around 500' or so accuracy.
