Data Loss for some of our users

As you may know we had multiple HDD failures yesterday morning in the early hours, our main drive and backup HDD both failed.

As a result it took down the Gigarank network, which included all websites of our free hosting users and paid hosting customers.

We do not know fully as yet why both drives failed at the same time as this is very rare. We do also carry out offsite backups periodically using the CPremote plugin. However from I understand the CPremote has not been operating as it should. We have already contacted CPremote asking them to investigate the problem.

It's with regret I have to inform there has been significant data loss, the last recoverable backup we recovered was from May this year.

Any data after May is lost without possibilty of recovery, I only hope that our members have making your own regular backups of your files and data.

Moving forward we will learn and make preventative measures to make sure this never happens again.

Cheers dude! Nothing pleases me more that you and un4saken are still upbeat. Energetically so. The staggering number of hours both of you put in are inspiring to me personally. Thanks for willing to bale all of us out.

Experience is the best teacher. I hope from this incident, Gigarank will be more mature to face the upcoming challange.
I personally finally take a lesson from this that it is important to have a backup of my website data (Minimal article, user database, etc).
And I pray something like this won't never happen again.

This incident was not a big deal for me because I could easily restore the files from my local copy of the files. The only thing that was lost for me was some non-important database information. I'm looking forward to continue using gigarank in 2016.

It seems unlikely that both drives should fail at the same time. Are you sure the backup drive was not broken long ago but didn't show because you didn't read from it? Or could both drives have failed due to some electrical overcharge, or similar?
