Here's an interesting way to deal with it, although not really recommended. But interesting nonetheless.

It does look interesting. I guess one can use it with an old microwave that won't be used for food ever again. Only for nuking CDs. :p

I remember our physics teacher microwaving a CD in class once, mostly because it looks cool I guess, because it wasn't relevant to anything we were learning about as far as I know.

If I want to prevent people from reading the content of a CD I just scratch it with something scarp such as a knife or a pair of scissors. This method should be good enough to preventing most people from reading the content but might not be foolproof if someone is prepared to spend time and money on restoring the content.

That's my method too. I scratch as well ad give it a good tear with the scissors. Sometimes when it is brittle enough I try and fold it and it then shatters with the pressure - but not always though.

A nice sledgehammer is a great way for "erasing" data on a disc. I would also do the same with HDDs and SSDs if you were worried about the data on the memory being stolen. Better to be safe than sorry am i right?
