Directory Critic hit with Google Penalty

One of the biggest directories on the web Directory Critic has been hit with a Google Penalty. I had an email from them this morning stating that they have indeed been hit by a penalty and have been removed from the Google natural listings or at best dropped significant rankings.

Hello,

My name is Chandni Panjwani & I manage DirectoryCritic.com, which you may know is the largest resource for directories online. In fact, your directory has been listed with us at Directory Critic for a while now & we hope that you have been receiving exposure & traffic from us. When you added your directory to our site, we had requested you to link back to our site DirectoryCritic.com, which you have done and we thank you for that.

However, due to Google's recent updates and with them not appreciating sitewide links, our site has been affected by the sitewide link on your directory. On the "footer" region of your site, you have a link with the text "Directory Critic" pointing to us.

It would be extremely helpful if you could remove that sitewide link at the earliest or nofollow it and instead provide us with a single link from a relevant section in your directory.

Please treat this request as urgent because such links have caused a penalty on our site which we're working on removing.

We would like to continue promoting your directory in our site & would appreciate your prompt co-operation in this matter.

Regards,

Chandni Panjwani

Directory Critic - Business Head

If you have never heard of Directory Critic, they are a directory of directories, general, niche and other directories. I have used their website for a few years for searching out niche directories. Just shows, no website is safe from the wrath of Google.

Search in Google for "Directory Critic" and any other terms they used to rank for, Directory Critic is nowhere to been seen. I wonder how long it will take for the penalty to be revoked, I will be keeping an eye on this one.

Beginning to feel like a Government, without being licensed as one. I really don't like it. Particularly people giving Google the power to act as the official police.

Backlink spamming is punished by Google for every other site, why not with them. I see nothing wrong there.

Latest update Penguin is harmfull for this method (bold text). Google will puck who webmaster wants to pointing anchor text similar with monetize money.

Who "licensed" and gave Google "the power" to punish any one? Only those supporting Google and its products. I don't like it when a mega corporation has so much power as it is bad for the industry that should have plenty of competition in it so that it can grow in more directions than only those that Google wants it to grow in for Google's gain. Ditto Microsoft. Ditto Adobe. And it is our fault for just blindly supporting them. Microsoft decides to buy Skype, and there is no brakes on allowing that to happen. Different form of a dictatorial establishment through our own fault.

Same with the Banks. Banks act as though they own our money and we're basically paying the Banks in millions of ways for using our money instead of the other way round, the Banks paying us. It used to be that the banking system would pay interest on the money you give them to look after. Not any longer. Like daylight robbery. Particularly when they are fiddling with interest rates to devalue the money they're supposed to look after for you Only reason they're getting away with it however is Government is in cahoots with them to bale out the Government each and every time when it can't balance its accounts and Government baling the Banks out when that happens to the Banks, and we don't seem to be doing anything about it.
