Do you celebrate the May Day in your Country and how.
It used to be celebrated in my Country for gatherings of workers and trade unions and parades ...

Now days, most People do not pay much attention to the workers rights, but People use a day off to organize excursions and barbecues in nature ...

Do you think this day is important or not?

Hi,
yes I do, but I agree that nowadays Workers' Day is just a holiday to be spent with friends and family, maybe having a BBQ outdoors if the weather is nice. Well, in some countries this holiday is not even celebrated at all, but where it is celebrated it seems to have a strong political tone, mostly from the left parties, ie. a friend of mine is in Rome right now where they organize an annual (free) concert with important singers and bands, the city seems like Davos during the World Economic Forum with plenty of police around ready to curb any violence that might arise. So I don't blame in the least people who simply enjoy a BBQ without risking to get into fights or worse just by accident or pure chance.

In any case, happy Workers' Day everybody!

In our country it really depends, many people use it as a day off and excuse to spend a day with family, some people are celebrating it in the proper way.

I dread May day as in South Africa people started to go on strike three days ahead of May day and burning tires and stuff. Looks as though it's a nice anniversary for workers to vent instead of celebrate they have a job.

I didn't know anything about May Day having to do with workers rights. In the US, when I was little I was told that it had to do with Spring and going around a pole or something, but no one seems to care about it here nowadays.

It will become important (as it used to be 2/3 decades ago) when worker unions all over the World regain their relevance after their decimation with the US-led imposition of the Neoliberal World Order Worldwide (otherwise know as the Globalisation......of Poverty!)

Nowadays, the May Day is nothing more than a nostalgic moment celebrated by toothless worker unions starved of memberships and largely paralyzed by IMF-instigated work-flexibility laws (at least in the Global South Countries.)
