Do you donate to any Charities or Causes? If so, which ones?

OR

Which Charities / Causes are you passionate about and why?

I give to the homeless but I rarely give them money because after spending time with them and listening to their needs, money isn't really what they want. I give them things they need and can use like new socks, backpacks, blankets, toiletries etc.

There's a really cool video on giving homeless people Christmas gifts here. He Asked Homeless People What They Want For Christmas. Their Answers Might Surprise You. I won't be giving gifts to my friends and family this year, they have everything they need in abundance. I won't be getting any either but that's OK. Instead, I'll be spending that money like they guy in the video did. I'm more excited about this Christmas then I have been in years!

Your turn ....

In Canada giving to charities is a very big deal. With some employers at the point of joining one gets an immediate option for a salary deduction and then to tick the charities one would like to contribute to. Then in addition to this there are countless causes and giving is just part of the fabric of Canadian society. I find that quite neat. No one can really escape the system right through to large savings on taxes. Charities are built into the tax system as well.

I'm working as an expat in the UAE currently and there are no homeless around. Now and then we get requests for special causes such as Palestine, natural disasters like typhoons in the Philippines, etc. But it's on a completely different scale. Probably because the national per capita income is much higher. And expats can't get citizenship here. Once their contracts have expired they need to return to their home countries. So no soup kitchens. No SPCA yet either.

Occasionally I do donate to the DEC appeals and other local charities. Recently being to a local animal shelter charity Manchester Dogs Home after an arsonist set ablaze kennels sheltering stray, injured and unwanted dogs.

I try too but money is usually tight. I do however offer free services to www.rockforlifeconcert.com which is very close to my heart. One of my students was their recipient a few years ago, too. This cause is one of the many things that make our local music scene amazing.

The funny thing about that is you don't need money to help someone. Money is good to have yes but it can't buy blood. Doesn't matter how rich you are, if you need blood and nobody donated it, you'd be out of luck. Right? So you get to help, feel good about it and possibly save a life. That's a cool deal in my book.

Thanks @"asexual synergy" . I was joined as volunteer of red cross at the last year. I did all that because our country is often a natural disaster which caused many casualties.

My wife and I give mostly to animal rescue/help organizations. I also help run a community garden where all the gardeners are asked to give at least half of what they produce to a local food bank. Most of us usually just donate almost all of it.

My family stopped giving Christmas gifts several years ago - now I just cook a lot because I like to feed people. There's nothing I want anyone to give me that I can't manage to get for myself and besides we live pretty simply.

This year for the first time I gave small gifts to volunteers at the non-profit where I work as a thank you for their help. I really enjoy giving things to people if I can think of something they will actually use and/or enjoy.

No I don't, its a waste of money. Most foundations here are corrupt. Loads of milions where given to the foundations to save the people in Haiti and the people that where hit by the tunami a couple of years later. 1/5 of the donations gets there, the rest is just gone, no one knows where it went.

like Hazem I've also never donated to charity, I've given clothes donations to shops
but never cash, if I see homeless people in the street I wont give them cash but I have offered to take them for a burger!
I'd Never give cash to a charity box that has a Government registered charity number.... for logical reasons :mega_shock:

I never donate to causes or charity, unless the "behind peoples" don't actually use the moneys for themself.
Cause that would be disgusting.

If the actual charity is truthful, then ye, it worth to donate.

well i always wanted to donate to help people and etc and etc but i pretty sure most donation centers i see are scams and i ended up working in a charity center (sure it demands time) but i feel way more "secure" that my efforts are towards someones life than someones pocket

I've been donating a regular amount to Wellington Childrens Hospital & Children's Heart Foundation here in New Zealand.

I also do alot of free services such as graphics design, web design too, If donating to the specific charity/organisation is not psychically possible at that stage.
