Does anyone use Tor?

I've been hearing a lot about it over the past few years and even more so recently. Tor is used to be completely anonymous while on the web. They claim that you cannot be traced and you leave no digital footprint what so ever. Can anyone validate any truth to these claims personally for me?
if you use a browser tor you are sure to surf anonymously, because your IP internet address changes using IP from tor, tor here serves as a proxy that changes the IP internet address which actually becomes an IP address specified by the browser itself, I think by using tor we can surf anonymously, also use the private browser mode to deactivate cookies etc. so that anonymity is maximized.

I use Tor on public wi-fi hotspots. They are notorious for their bad security and using Tor on these kinds of networks lets me use the internet without my carrier charging me while staying somewhat anonymous.

Tor is safe for your purpose, the US goverment backdoor or stuff like that have nothing to do with you ;)

If it isn't for the performance drawback (slower and can't do a lot of fun things), Tor is what every browser is supposed to be.

Since when we decided to be tracked when we get online? If a bookstore sends a spy to follow you to track which page of whick book you read at exactly what time. How many of us would say "yes please, follow me everywhere, to my house, to the toilet, I don't mind, I don't do anything wrong"

When the media attempted to label Tor as a "darkweb browser", they really don't know what they are talking about. The US government supported its development for freedom of speech (bypass sensorship in some dodgy regions). They are not going call this Tor supporter "darkweb government". lol

Tor is every browser supposed to be.

Another related issue is about the allegedly backdoors.

Tor is open source. Until someone check the source code and found something, the backdoor stories are still just speculations, at least for the official version.

As for stories like someone did something wrong and got caught because of Tor, there are quite a few possibilities before we can jump to conclusion.

1- Security is as strong as its weakiest link, some people just have bad habbit and configure Tor beyond its limits

2- It's not unusual for organisations like the FBI all that to substitute a suspect's software with a modified version. That's actually not the official Tor.

Australia recently rushed through a new law to make the software substitution practice legal, but that's different from having backdoors in an official software.

Anyway, Tor is open source, has anyone found anything weird in the code?

Tor is riddled with police exit nodes and while they won't admit that publicly, it is obvious that they have control over some. While the idea of Tor is excellent and I understand it helps people in oppressive countries like Iran, Turkey etc. gain access to wrongthink websites, it can't be used to stay completely anonymous. Someone will always find you if they're determined ;)

It used to be very slow and lack reliability. Recently, however it became much reliable and fast enough to be used for browsing safely. I do trust it more than any free service that claims anonymous or safe browsing. It is considered one of the most reputed anonymous web services now. Many apps and services are configured to use it recently as well.

I actually like to use TOR. Not for hiding, but for more privacy. TOR seems to have collaborated with Duck Duck Go. As browsing is now with Duck Duck Go.

I also have a VPN, but find TOR quick and easy for just a little bit safer browsing when I feel I need that.

man schould know, that is quite unsafe when the settings from TorBrowser are changed. So is possible to be tracked even throught Tor Browser and Onionrouting.

Tor is really the safest path to go against government surveillance. But using tor sometimes make your internet speed slower. So that is why I am not a big fan of tor. Dont get me wrong though I am a big fan of tor project.
If you just want unrestricted internet you can try lantern https://getlantern.org

The free version of lantern provides 500mb bandwidth per month. This is enough to check it out. It won't provide you anonymity but you can access sites which are blocked.
