Does censorship affect one's internet speed?

I live in a country where there is censorship of the Internet, and quite a large number of Websites are filtered out. I'm just wondering, would that have an affect on my Internet speed? I've always felt that the 8mbps I'm subscribing to is much slower than its equivalent outside the country, at the same time was wondering whether I imagined it?

Wow! The Netherlands has to be excellent, as I've seen others from the Netherlands with equally impressive speeds. :good:

I've got 100mbps at work, but must say it doesn't feel much faster than 8mbps at home. Again, I'm wondering whether this is due to all kinds of filters and scripts in the background. :unknown:

depending the method they use.
in my country have 2 method.
some provider use dns based on opendns family filter and reconfigure with local filter then they named nawala dns, this method not effect internet speed.
other provider use dns + content filtering, they replace/redirect javascript and flash url with their url, this method slow down internet speed and sometime make stuck when their host down.

but we can disable their censorship by 3rd party dns like google dns, scrubid dns, openic dns etc.
