Dyn DNS Issues and Cloudflare

Agreed, attacks on DNS registries are becoming more and more common place. Plus botnot's are changing.

It's now IOT's such as lightbulbs, coffee machines, printers, smart TV's, fridge freezers, Microwave ovens, Cars and more. Infact virtually web, wifi, bluetooth devices with Internet access can be used in botnet attacks as security is far weaker than a PC these days.

Here's one Smart TV's made by HiSense (Chinese company) was a major sponsor in the Euro 2016 football tournament. Cheaply sold deliberately, sold millions of Smart TV's in the last couple of years! Just throwing that one out there...

In order for anything to slow down a DNS service like that, it has to be a big system with lots of power. This is a chinese backed attack on the system.
To further elaberate on the attack, they have found a flaw in the code and will be exploiting it if the guys at DYN don't secure it. The best thing for them to do is to pull the plug on their service for now. It will be the only way for them to secure all websites and stop the attack.

As it stands, there over 1 billion devices that are infected and can be used as a bot network. I have been saying this for years. Its one of the reason why I don't use bluetooth, skype, or an AV as that is how they install the trojans.

After reading up on the issue. It seems that nothing was really affected as described. I live in the area that they said was affected but I never had an issue at all. As for the things that were hacked, they weren't. It was coded in already. Here in North America, and I mean Canada and U.S both countries want to control the internet. What better way to do that by making things look like they have been hack. Its a ploy that has been used before. Those that don't understand the devices and what is happening will be scared and will support anything that they government tells them. In many cases, they are the majority. Think about all the population over 45, they didn't grow up in the computer age and don't understand the technoligy as much as the younger generation. So right away, they will be asking for help from the government to stop this from happening. Lets face it, people have been hacking these devices since the day they came out. They aren't new and these hacks aren't new. Botnet works aren't new either. They have taken down major government sites and other large websites. But seeing it doesn't affect every day devices, no one cares. Now you show people that they can hack them and then actually show them results of the hack, people will panic. Lets face it, everyone is running out and buy these new smart devices to make their lives easier. Hell, they made movies about this stuff years ago.

From my end, I registered 2 anomalies yesterday:
> Youtube was really slow; I couldn't download a video in a timely fashion.
> Red Hat Cloud was unreachable due to a DNS name resolution problem. I have a couple of Gears with them that I could reach via SSH but the websites are unreachable from the outside World.

DNS DDoSing is nasty and HARD to stop.

Till now there is no evidence on whose behind and I don't think, it's a state-sponsored attack and I don't see why China is brought up here. It may well be, that's something triggered from inside China but the state involvement isn't convincing at this point in time. They have just been welcomed inside the IFM's SDR scheme!!!!!!

I had a concentrated YouTube evening. And it was as fast as ever tonight. So maybe they've sorted their problems. Pretty fast!

I like to download movies ( :pardon: ) and I usually do quite a number of downloads in a concentrated way. Like maybe 15 or more at the same time. Was even surprised tonight that FireFox didn't fail me. I've just completed all of the downloads, and FireFox is still up and running and doing OK.
