E-mail problems

Detailed Description: Hey-

We're having problems with emails generated from the site going out (oddly though, we ARE getting our cron job report)....

Our internal mail tracker shows that the msgs are accepted by phpMail (we have backup mail relays to handle anything rejected due to 60/hr limitations, assuming they are not rejected AFTER being accepted by phpMail)....

Any ideas?

Note: This was reported to me yesterday (5/29), and I don't think anyone has done anything to ten an email since, so if it was just a glitch -- but it happened for 8 emails -- then it may have cleared by now...pls advise if I should test functionality, should all look well on your end...

Many thnx!

OK. Looks like there are too many e-mails going through than what is allowed. This is what has been happening:

Domain colonialsense.com has exceeded the max defers and failures per hour (48/5 (60%)) allowed. Message discarded.

and now

Domain colonialsense.com has exceeded the max emails per hour (38/30 (126%)) allowed. Message discarded.

There are a number of e-mails lined up and quite a few of yours (Admin of colonialsense) frozen (which I've unfrozen). So what looks like what has happened is that the number of lined up emails exceeded the number allowed to be lined up, and the excess were discarded. Also, the number of failures that were allowed were exceeded and the excess discarded. Did you do an extraordinary large mailing yesterday?

DJB/un4 could advise better, however looks as though you need to change the way you are doing your e-mails (as per the TOS). If you are going to do mass mailings on a regular basis you need to find a different way of doing it.

Hey-

Many thnx for clearing up stuff & for the info...

Dunno if I have everything fixed yet, but giga's mail servers should not be targeted for mail list sendings, so there should be no further problems of this kind again...

Many thnx, & sorry about causing the problems...

Am more worried about colonialsense and the best solution for you. I checked up and it does look as though everything has settled down. How about with colonialsense?

OK thanks for giving us a heads up. Have you thought about an alternative for handling the e-mails?
