FileZilla is a completely free FTP client. FileZilla is open source software distributed free of charge under the terms of the GNU General Public License.

FileZilla is definitely not bad and is what I use when I need an external software for FTP. For most FTP work however MS Expression Web 4 seems to be able to do an excellent job for me.

I've been using it about 3 weeks now, I've got it on my portable apps dock on my usb and must say its pretty lightweight and nice.

I've used FileZilla for almost 3 years and it has always worked great. It's been updated regularly and fairly often in that time without any perceived loss of function. It sure remembers connection details better than I ever could.

And the price is right! That being said, projects that create and maintain reliable ftp software are about the easiest ones for me to want to contribute to and help support. Good ftp software can make life a lot easier than it might otherwise be.

I haven't tried Notepad++ for ftp but I use it a lot as text editor for which it is very good.

I love filezilla! I have used it all of my life and it is amazing. I have never had a problem and it works great. It also lets you have multiple accounts open at once. I would recommend it to everyone.

I have FileZilla but I only use it to change file permissions as I'm still new to the program :p So far, I like FileZilla. I just need to spend more time using it to make friends with it  For now, I'll just stick my beloved Macromedia Dreamweaver MX 2004, even if it is an outdated version. Maybe someday I'll switch to Macromedia Dreamweaver CS so I can at least have the CS version to match my Adobe Photoshop and ImageReady CS versions. For now, I just don't have the money to go out and buy it.

i've always used SmartFTP, it has a 30 day trial period but you can use it indefinitely so long as you change your date on your computer back to when you first installed it or later.

I've heard of SmartFTP, but I've always heard people to use what I use (Dreamweaver) or FileZilla. What's SmartFTP like? Is it any good?

I started using WS_FTP when I first started in web design. Its very easy to use and I like the default layout.

I signed up for free hosting with 000webhost, their auto installer was down, so I had to manually upload files via an FTP client. I chose Filezilla, I uploaded Prestashop's e-commerce platform, it worked perfectly the first time. However, I had used 000webhost's free domain name and I wanted to switch to my own domain, I set up name servers and everything but it never installed correctly. I uninstalled the files that I had uploaded and tried again, but Filezilla kept throwing failed transfers, at least between 4-21 files. I'm not sure if it was the host, my domain, the name server or what but I prefer hosting that comes with softaculous to auto install e-commerce platforms for me.

I am currently using freehosting with softaculous using abantecart's platform, it's a little on the slow side. I plan to sell handmade nail and beauty products so I need faster speeds, I'm hoping gigalicous will be fast enough to satisfy my e-commerce needs.

I also used Filezilla with 000webhost and also had problems, but I think it was more on the 000webhost side as uploading kept timing out. The connection was almost impossible.

Yes, you're probably right, it was most likely 000webhost's fault. I tried searching for the issue through google and someone suggested to change the connection reset in the settings. I tried that and all the files uploaded successfully but I was still unable to get Prestashop installed. That's when I went looking for a hosting service that offered an auto installer such as softaculous and that brought me here to gigalicous!

I must say that Filezilla is definately the best software for ftp, I've tried many equivalents and found that this is the quickest and easiest to use. I'd recommend it to anyone that needed reliable FTP software.

Could be you have a dynamic IP with very short interval lengths causing you to time out. .
