For all the Techy Geeks. The Ubuntu Phones

Well folks, it looks like Ubuntu is releasing their own phone with Ubuntu on them. They seem to have better specs them all the other phones on the market and for a better price even. Here is the link to the phones. They even have some tablets coming out.

Ooh, looks nice! Any word on whether U.S. carriers will get it? I probably won't be convinced to part with Android so easily, but I like that Ubuntu is open source, and I might want to try out a demo model, if carriers have them in their stores.

I just received the email about them being released. Seeing they are not being sold through a carrier. I will assume they come unlocked to be used on any network. But I didn't see any information on that. They do seem to have more ram then most Androids. I did see the one that had a 21meg pixel rear camera. The looks of them seem crisp, clean and a cross between an Iphone and a Samsung phone.

Exactly what I was wishing for. I was looking at an iphone yesterday, as I need to change my very old 2004 Nokia model. I tried a lower model Samsung J5 in July, and I just hate all the apps I'm not interested in, staring me in the face all of the time. iPhone looked like a better bet, until I checked it yesterday and noticed it also has some cons and a huge price. Hopefully the Ubuntu will make its appearance in the UAE too.

The ubuntu phones have been out for some time but only in Europe and I am planning to get one in the future when my current phone (Nexus 6) gets outdated. It also has a different OS which will be a nice change and I won't have to deal with people complaining which OS is better android or IOS.

Yup, I know that feeling. That is why I remove all the Apps I don't need or want. Iphones ties you to Itunes and have updates every week that use up both data and storage. It will force you to update. If you ignore updating, after awhile the phone will act up and not function correctly. Android gives you the option when and how you want to update. You can even decline updating.
I have all Samsung phones here. I have a Ace2, the galaxy s3,s4 and s5 and Samsun galaxy Nexus.
Unlike Iphones, You can root Android phones easily and install custom roms on them that help remove bloat wear and other stuff.

I'm lazy. Didn't realize one could control the updates of Samsung. I really need to sit for a few hours to puzzle over all of the options. Maybe if I could delete most of the apps and those darn popup updates then I'll be happier with my Samsung J5.

Ya, I am not familiar with the J5 as I don't think they are available over here in Canada. But if they follow the same set up as most Samsungs. All you have to do is go into setting, find the about device and the software update should be in that section.

Thanks dude. Will do it today when I have a spot of time at work. Today's first work day of the week here in the UAE. I keep my J5 phone at work in a drawer to play with, but if what you suggest is going to work, I may just use it as my main phone. Haha, I've just received notification from the service provider that I need to upgrade the SIM card of my main number. So may just as well get the right size for it. Better check up, but think it's Micro. :p

By the way, thank you for saving me from buying an iPhone. They have a special for S5 in the UAE, and I was ready to do an order yesterday, as it's about half the price, but I'm sure probably double irritation when I would have discovered Apple's controlling ways. I'll try and make the J5 work for me, seeing it's still more or less current technology. The model came out in June of last year. Once I start to use it as a main phone, I'll probably be more experienced to upgrade to something on a higher level, if I want to do it. I'd hate to turn into one of those phone zombies though, the kind who walks around with phone in the hand oblivious to the rest of the world, always in the way and bumping in things. So don't want a smart phone to turn into more important than what it should be. Keep it in its place.

Checked yesterday and looks as though Ubuntu isn't in UAE yet, but there are announcements - so I guess it won't lag that much behind Europe and may be available for sale quite soon. Maybe Europe was a testing ground for Ubuntu, and the UAE may get a better product. ha ha ... Price looks not too shabby. Like affordable.

I would not really mind a cool open source phone but would they be really able to sustain themselves I mean we all saw what happened with Mozilla and their Firefox OS phones. It is a success I will be happy but the point is it will be a long time before they come out of they trial runs in the USA.

Well, the firefox OS is not even doing well. So its no wonder why it failed on a phone. It also has to do with the types of phones they put it on.

I think you are right though, they may not take off at all. But they are cool to have and the price seems decent.

I believe that the Ubuntu phone will do fine since a lot of people donated money to Ubuntu to help start the project on indiegogo. the original plan was to develop their own phone known as the Ubuntu edge but they missed their goal. The fact they still were able to raise almost $13,000,000 in a short span of time is still good and clearly shows that their is an interest. The money that was donated went on towards the current Ubuntu phones.

Also canonical is quite a successful business that has a revenue of $65 million dollars.

The Meizu MX4 Ubuntu Edition has actually been sold out which is good news since it shows that people are buying the phones.
