I`ve been having a play around with a really good free open source cms script called Subrion. It has all the usual required tools to run a CMS based website.

Subrion is a free open source content management system. It's written in PHP 5 and utilizes MySQL database. Subrion CMS can be easily integrated into your current website or used as a stand-alone powerful platform.

It's extremely flexible and scalable php system that stands for a content management framework. The strongest community behind the Subrion project provides all users with extra functionality and friendly help through user forums.

Main url: http://www.subrion.com/

Demo: http://demo.subrion.org/

If you install it and try it out, let me know how you get on.

Looks interesting. Could be what I need. Although I prefer your original design, minimalist and very simple.

Can you show me the Admin Panel ?
The frontend is basically using css bootstrap likes joomla.

You can install the CMS via your Softaculous script installer. Look in the CMS section.

Thanks for mentioning this cms. I had tried it briefly before I went to wordpress and promptly forget all about it. I'm going to give it a test run and see how it goes.

Do you guys use / have used the CMS recently? I cannot make it to run for some reason. When I try to run the install folder or the base one, I get the 500 internal server error. Also, for a reason unknown to me, there is no error log in these directories and thus I do not really have any way to find out what happens when I try to run the installation script.

Also, when trying to "Import" the Subrion via the softaculous, some kind of error appears, again, without any details describing why it cannot install the CMS.

Any ideas?

I'm not sure what you mean by "import". I've just now (in order to test whether it was working) downloaded Dubrion successfully it with the Softaculous Installer in cPanel. Only problem I had was this one:

The following errors were found :

Installation cannot proceed because the following files already exist in the target folder :
.htaccess
Please delete these files or choose another folder.OR
Select the checkbox to overwrite all files and continue

It was easy to select the checkbox to overwrite all files - and it then it completed the installation.

However, when I wanted to run it it came with this error message:

Internal Server Error

The server encountered an internal error or misconfiguration and was unable to complete your request.

Please contact the server administrator at [email protected] to inform them of the time this error occurred, and the actions you performed just before this error.

More information about this error may be available in the server error log.

Additionally, a 500 Internal Server Error error was encountered while trying to use an ErrorDocument to handle the request.

And I tracked this down at their discussion forum. Looks as though there are some bugs since after the OP used the script - also our php settings have changed since then:
http://www.subrion.org/forums/threads/500-internal-server-error.1932/

Guess that's as far as I got.

Thanks, I have managed to successfully use the softaculous; previously I had used the "Import" tab on the far right in softaculous script page, since I - not sure how - did nto notice the "Install" tab ;)

Well, will try to make it work, hopefully will succeed some day :)

Yeah. I had a Web Directory running on Subrion a few years ago ... I was really satisfied with it. Now I see that they have improved their products and services.
Very good CMS.

Well I tried it like you advised. It does look fancy but isn't very innovative on the direct editing on page mode. Lot's of plain fields in a classic CMS setup otherwise.

I've been working with a CMS called Conrete5.7 the last few weeks. It definitely takes some work to make templates and layouts but it only has to be done once. Less plugins. But you can edit almost anything without ever having to acces the actual code and mess everything up. I would deffo try it out if I where you! :good:
