Prebuilts are usually not worth your money, the one you bought included. I have a ~$2k build that would make other prebuilts here at the same price point cry, even those at the $3k range for laptops.

Note: All prices are in SGD(Singapore Dollars).

Pre-builts are not very cost effective but they do professional build it, test it and do a lot of cable management. They also have some exclusive cases like engravings of the company which is a nice bonus.

It's funny. A fairly good HP server with RAID disks and lots of memory costs much less than a gaming machine...
Yes I'm not going to suggest vt100 semi-graphic games ;.).

I have an AMD r9 390 in my PC i upgraded from a GTX 770 and it was an ideal upgrade for me because it had a lot of VRAM for 4k resolution. AMD are not too bad they are well priced especially there newer GPUs which are great for higher resolutions because of VRAM and AMD free synce. RX 480 is a pretty decent card so it should do fine for you.

There are certain companies that don't even bother doing it professionally. Due to Internet, I will not give out the names for easy searching. Exclusive cases is a thing though.

I agree that Pre-builts are not very cost effective
i am sure there are many guides on "how to build a gaming computer" and you can spend your money on the important part for your gaming machine, usually its the GPU

regarding DVD drive, also new laptops are starting to be sold without DVD drive. your idea of using usb DVD drive is a good one :)

[font=Arial,Helvetica,sans-serif]Definitely, I prefer to build from scratch to PC gaming. It's more cheap to buy a prebuilt.

I would choose an Intel processor, CPU, DDR4 for RAM, a good motherboard like ASUS, a great Graphics cards like nVidia GTX series, a good case like Thermaltake.
