Google are planning to launch another mobile friendly update in the next couple of months which could lead to significant traffic loss to websites that are non-responsive which rely on Google as a major source of their website traffic.

Just a heads up, read more here: http://searchengineland.com/google-boost-mobile-friendly-algorithm-coming-may-244941
Google announced on the Webmaster blog that they are going to be boosting the effects of the mobile-friendly algorithm.

Gigarank are already in the development stages of revamping our website to be more mobile friendly.

It will be interesting to see how this affects my websites. I can hope it leads to better ranking. As I understand it this is not a new algorithm, only that mobile friendliness will have an even bigger impact on mobile searches than it already has.

The algorithm was created to test whether a website is or not mobile-friendly. What Google will do now is to put it in practice, to actually crawl through the pages of many websites and adjust their rank if necessary -- which will take some time, that's why the update will take a while.

That's nice. I hope that, more than bringing the mobile-friendly websites to the top results, it encourages website owners to work into making their websites mobile-friendly more quickly this time, since the announcement of the algorithm didn't do much back in 2015. The major sites tend to do well with mobile browsers, but, when searching for something specific, I still come across some mobile-unfriendly websites with poor layout, ads that cover the whole screen and don't close.

I'd rather that Google spend their time on adjusting the algorithm to find scam Websites. This way it is just perpetuating the situation where those with the most hits and most traffic get the top spots. Regardless of the content of the Website. I'm referring now to those very viral free VPS websites that don't have free VPS websites to offer. When one gets to them they ask one to complete certain things first, yet there is nothing at the end of completing the surveys or whatnot. They get top spots in the rankings because they get HUGE traffic. By doing what Google is doing with its algorithm it's just helping those who don't qualify content wise to be in the top of the rankings to get to the top by just making sure they have a pretty responsive Website - regardless of what is inside the Website. Now that makes for a very iffy search engine in my opinion.

Not to mention that all of those scam Websites look exactly the same. Almost like copies of one another. The algorithm no doubt doesn't check for that either. Like it would be easy to find Websites with the exact same telephone number on it. Yet responsive is more important.

It has already crawled the websites so why would it have to do it again before adjusting the ranking? I think the real reason that the change is introduced slowly is to make it harder for people to understand exactly how the algorithm work and what impact it has. That, and introducing it over a night would probably create too much confusion.

This update actually makes it really easy to find clients for web design. I just run their existing website through Google Pagespeed Insights and I show them their mobile score. I then present them with the information that 3/4 of Google's traffic is mobile and how mobile optimized sites rank higher.
