Has call of duty lost the plot ?

I started playing with COD 2 (PC) and really enjoyed it. As modern warfare came out I went national with TWL competition. But it seems that everything went down hill from there.. I've been playing it on console ps3 and just find it boring. I think they've just ran out of fresh ideas.

COD is a very good game, I played that as a child, is a good option for play,
But the news versions are better than old versions 2007-2010

Newer versions of Call of Duty just have new guns and new maps, nothing special. Plot is usually non-changed.
