Help: Can't open youtube

Hi, I am posting here because you all seem to know a lot about computers and such...
So recently I've been noticing I can't open youtube, nor google images or some other google services. If I search for anything on there, it opens some image thumbnails and that's all, the rest has some broken links. As for youtube, it says the page can't be opened. At first I thought it could've been some kind of problem with my browser, so I tried a bunch of others and they all say the same.

Tried my other laptop and smartphone and none of them can open YT. Some friends said it could be a DNS problem and told me ways to fix the problem, but it didn't make any difference.

Besides these two websites, I can open and navigate through any website the same way as always. What might be causing it and how can I fix it?

Should I call my internet provider?

Thanks x

Check your host file. Maybe your PC was attacking by malware or virus to blocking google access.
On WinXP : C:\WINDOWS\system32\drivers\etc

I don't think your IP would be able to help. Have you checked whether your Adobe Flash Player software is up to date?

Ok, so a friend told me to add alternative DNS to google's dns or something, it's 8.8.8.8, and now everything works on the laptop I'm on. But since I only changed the dns on this one, my smartphone still can't open videos using the yt app or even google play, my macbook doesn't open anything google related either.

Since changing the dns helped on my Pc... I don't know should I contact the internet provider then? I don't want to call and then have them say it's not their problem.

I don't think it's a problem with flash, because it's everything google, except for gmail, I can open gmail without any problems.

I haven't had problems with YouTube either. I'm in the UAE. Working really well in fact (touch wood).

I still think it has something to do with updating Adobe Flash Player.

For me it went just like a tick, first half of the day it works, then it stops working at the point when everyone goes on the web, then go back to normal at about 11pm, which is depressing.

Also it might be the issue of updating Adobe Flash, as someone mentioned it on the internet.

I really don't know if it was related but.... my smartphone got turned off because it run out of battery - I never turn it off because I never remember the PIN, but when I turned it on again, everything worked, youtube, google play, google images, everything that wasn't working before. :fool:

It also started working on my laptops too.

It's all working fine now. I guess it was something to do with my phone and my wifi connection? It's so weird.

Thanks for all your help anyway!!

Glad the problem got solved TM. Maybe your smartphone has a way of shutting down certain applications when it is low on memory. Or could be there was an automatic download and you needed to "reboot" the applications? Am curious, do you have an iphone? A friend of mine says his iphone5 is almost permanently attached to electricity to keep the battery up. His battery only lasts for an hour otherwise. When it is low it does affect all of its functions.

No, I have an android phone...

I was low in memory actually, perhaps that was the problem, but it doesn't explain why it was also affecting my laptop as well. like, my laptop and smartphone were both using my wifi signal/connection and once I turned it on again after the battery was full youtube and google play worked again, not only on my mobile phone but also on my PC.

TM, I've just come across this discussion about Google's DNS:

http://serverfault.com/questions/169279/should-i-use-my-isps-dns-or-googles-8-8-8-8

I wouldn't want to use Google as I'm a Google phobe, but since Google is the owner of YouTube it probably would make sense to cozy up to it DNS wise :p

Here's the discussion where I found this solution:
http://forums.androidcentral.com/sp...352166-youtube-not-working-wifi-cellular.html

There's also another "solution" that was mentioned
Try doing a battery pull. Or just hold the power button till it resets(simulates battery pull), happens to me alot and this fixes it for me

Speaking of China, I'm about to block in the firewall the whole China country. So many botnets randomly attacking servers and i'm tired of blocking them manually. I rather block the whole country and take a deep nap, lol.
