Hide member data

Does it make sense to hide the hosting account requests (accepted and declined as well)
for others than the member who request a hosting package and the staff ?

I think the mail address and cPanel Username are security related data ans should not be visible
for the rest of the world.

What do you think ?

Should not be a criticism..;-)))

Regards.

I agree totally, they should be viewable by staff and the original poster in my opinion, leaving sensitive data viewable by all is very frustrating and looks bad on this site.

agreed, i deleted my thread after it was accepted

Ha, why didn't I think to try that, I tried editing my post to remove my email and cpanel name but of course editing is set to 45 minutes, I didn't notice the delete function was available, just deleted mine now too.

Thanks for the pointer, I feel a lot more comfortable now. :drinks:

I've got it set up at another Forum so that only those who have X posts and more can view and access the Webhosting application sub-forum to make their applications or view applications. And only those who are hosted can access the web hosting support sub-forum. Once the hosting application has been approved, it will remain for viewing by the hosted members for maybe a day, after which approved or declined applications can only be viewed by the staff.

@jimkirk: You're lucky you could delete your application as not often that the applications are immediately approved. And they can only be deleted within a certain time frame. Not sure that I like it that you deleted it either. If you had asked to have the information you did not want publicly available removed, we'd have gladly done that for you.

if you don't want people deleting their threads why don't you remove the delete option from that forum?

Jimkirk, I've been staff at more than one Free hosting Forum for quite a while, and this is the first time in my experience that someone ever did something like that. It is discourteous to say the least. As is your tone.

i didn't mean to be discourteous or rude in any way, i'm just saying if you don't want your members to do something then don't let them do it

OK noted. That was immediately done by our Tech Admin after you first mentioned it.

Thank you for your suggestion Moontracker. Permissions for the declined and accepted Webhosting request sub-forums have now been amended so that only those who created the threads and staff can view them. They are no longer available for public scrutiny.

I'm going to close this thread for now. If you wish to reopen it for further discussion please PM me.

I just asked a question in the application area, but I can't even see it myself.
If someone decides to answer it... I won't be able to read it.

Merged threads and re-opened thread.

I can't see the post either Sander. Are you sure it went through? I checked your recent posts through your profile, and the post isn't listed in there either.

Members don't usually ask questions in there either as it is the application area. There's a sub-forum for questions in the Hosting Support Forum.

Well done. Just checked, and great that our details are only available to ourselves and the staff. Thank you.

I'm not as worried about hiding information that I post as my e-mail is anonymous any way. I created a special ID for this Forum, as I'm sure most people must do. I rarely share my personal e-mail address in public areas of the Webs that I'm not completely familiar with.

Same here Mailbox. My e-mail address is anonymous too. But I'm happy that the staff has made our details a little more difficult to get to. :good:

Moved from Free Hosting Applications Forum and merged with this thread

I still see this...

Correct. When a new thread is opened in the main Free Hosting Applications Forum, every one can see the content of that thread for as long as it is waiting to be approved. Once approved or declined the content can only be seen by those who created the threads and staff.

Applications rarely remain long in the main applications forum, so it should not really be a problem. However if people feel strongly, we could split the applications forum into a separate sub-forum so we can do the same for it as we've done for the "approved" and "declined" sub-forums.

We will be changing to a new signup method in a few weeks, which will improve privacy and make it easier to register for a free web hosting package. I cannot provide exact ETA just yet, but as mentioned probably a few weeks away.
