You can also do this for Windows 8
The only difference is you would use an ISO image from Windows 8 instead of Windows 7 on the 2nd step (Browse the image in the Microsoft Tool).

If you have lost your Windows 8 product key, you can use the Belarc Advisor software to find it, it is free and easy to use.

The initial analysis may take a while. The Windows 8 product key will be displayed in the Software Licenses section.
The key consists of 25 letters and numbers and should look like this: xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx-xxxxx

Another option is to use a tool with the name:

Zotac WinUSB Maker

An installation with 1 usb stick is pretty fast compared with the installation using a dvd.

The first thing to do is to find a website to download the free tool. Google can be used to find a website. Google provides several links. This first post can't contain working links. So it isn't possible to include a working link to a website with Zotac WinUSB Maker in this post. This isn't a problem since Google works pretty well to find a website that has a button to download the tool.

The next step is to download the tool. When the program is downloaded the tool can be opened using Administrator Rights. Open the tool using Administrator Rights by pushing down the right button of your mouse while the mouse pointer is on top of the name of the file.

The tool works by towing the mark of the name of the usb-stick to the window of the tool with the mouse.

The iso file of Windows 8.1 is loaded to the usb stick by pulling the name of the file to the window of the tool in the same way by using the mouse.

Although the need to use the mouse to drag the location of the usb stick and the location of the iso file into the windows of the tool might seem complicated, this method works pretty well and easy when done at a slow speed and in a quiet manner.

Sometimes the installation process needs to be repeated several times to work. If the tool accepts the usb stick and the iso file the tool makes the usb stick bootable. The tool installs the iso file of Windows 8.1 to the usb stick once the name of the iso file is dragged into the window of the tool. The tool explains the two necessary tow steps in a clear way.

This description works after the iso file of Windows 8.1 is downloaded to the computer used to create a bootable usb stick to install Windows 8.1 before opening Zotac WinUSB Maker.

The tool erases all files in the usb stick. So it is adviced to use an empty usb stick. All files of the usb files will be gone when the usb stick is made bootable and the iso file of Windows 8.1 is installed to the usb stick.

A disadvantage of Zotac WinUSB Maker is the need to install .NET Framework before this program to create a bootable usb stick can be used.

use rufus tool to create usb disk. I have used many others and this is the best of all.
tool is light weight around 1mb.

tool can be used to create most of the current operating systems.
I have used this tool to create usb disks for
1. windows XP
2. windows 7
3. windows 8
4. windows 8.1
5. Kubuntu 14.04
6 ubuntu 12.04
7. ubuntu 12.10
8. ubuntu 14.04

you don't need any prior knowledge to use this tool.

  • insert USB 8 Gb or bigger device
  • execute and give admin permissions
  • next, next next
  • wait for download,
  • do not click to reboot,
  • remove USB device
  • Insert in the computer you want to install
  • F1, F2, F12 or to access to bios or boot selection
    • choose usb
  • And you are ready

Rufus is a great tools to make windows usb installer. I use it to make usb installer for Windows 7, 8 and windows 10. If you want to create multi usb isntaller for both windows and linux You can create one using YUMI.
YUMI support installing Windows from ISO files. So, We can create all in one windows installer from windows 7 to windows 10 both 32bit and 64bit.
