How to make money with your website

What are some ways to make money from your website? I've heard you can make a decent amount if you have ads and a lot of traffic, but i'm entirely against the idea of filling half the page with ads.

The only other option that I know of other than ads, is taking donations to help offset server costs. I used to do it back in '03-'05 for my DBZ fan site and it kept the bills paid at least.

Hmm ads are the most common way of getting income from your website also donations seem to be popular as well. I have seen many ways to get donation especially on forums. You can have special services such as gigarank does the point system where if you donate you get so many points or other special things

On a side note should this not be in the web development page?

Adsense is the best way to make money. Now they are banning accounts from several countries like pakistan india nipal.
You can use any referral program also and place popup code offer by some sites like adsense

True. I'm getting VERY irritated with Google because of that. It's high time countries start to ban Google. For example, when I use a Latvia proxy Google defaults to Russia Google, now what good Latvian would like that! Sometimes in Youtube I'm told that the video is not available for the country I'm in, in the UAE. Like it has a list of "high risk" countries.

There are Google Adsense altenatives like: Chitika, Yahoo-Bing ads, Kontera and Clicksor.

Affiliate marketing is another way to earn money.

You can sell plugins, widgets , or ebook like things online.

You can also make money by allowing visitors to visit high quality content/article for a little membership fee.

You can use registration member system where user have to paid amount of money to become members. Of course Members have more advantages such as they can view a special content of your website.

Thanks for those tips Livewire. Never heard of Chitika, Kontera and Clicksor before. Or I may have, and not taken notice of them.

well ads are the best way but you might interest in selling products. may not be of your own , but by affiliations, from websites like ebay or amazon etc.

I think it would probably depend on what kind of site you have. Advertising is the most common, that I know of. There are also affiliate programs you can sign up for-- but that's just another form of advertising. For example, if you have a sports blog, you could join a sports betting, or sports merchandise affiliate program (i.e. 365 bet). For every person that makes a purchase through your link to their site, you get a percentage. Otherwise, you might consider a small membership fee, if appropriate-- i.e. $5/year. Or maybe you can have an annual or monthly fundraiser, where you sell relevant products (that you get at a discounted, or free rate) to help bring in some funds (sort of like npr/pbs does).

I was doing really well with Google back 12 years ago. Then they started placing bans on everyone that I knew, myself included. I was generating a fairly good income from multiple sites that were all above ground and legit. Seems the problem I had was they banned me for logging into my administrator account at an uncles house to show him the program. Not realizing at the time he was clicking around seeing how things worked to get a feel for the Google Ad sense. Well I was banned for life for click fraud. I think just signing up for quality affiliates that fit your website is the was to go. Have found in the past that less sometimes can be more. Take one page and if you talk all about dogs then dedicate that page to only dog related affiliates. and always place one banner across the middle somewhere as a line break. I receive quite a good revenue from that as well. .
Text link vs. banner. I always fit into my articles test links as well as a banner of the same affiliate for some reason it just works, maybe they read it then see it and click to go check it out. There are a lot of alternatives to Google like Genesis says Chitika, Yahoo, Bing, and so many more site. do research on the company first if an affiliate. check them on Alexa for traffic and ratings. Good Luck and go make some extra income.

Im using Infolinks right now. It seem too legit because I've got 4 - 5 dollar per day with only 400 ads-view.

Infolinks is different with contextual adsense. Because their service is using contextual texts. We only need alot organic traffic and write article with good niche. Their CPM is very low but their CPC is the best. Other alternative for adsense I sugesst you try media.net from Yahoo Network. They have good CPM revenue on this day.

I find really struggling to earn money, because my website is in foreign language and most of the companies only accept english language websites. Im with google adsense at the moment and earned money to pay off gigarank premium hosting and have spare money. I want to know how else I can get paid if my website is not in english.
