Ideas for websites to display in portfolio

Hello!

New on here, this is my first post. If this is in the wrong section of the forum, sorry about that!

I just started with wordpress (more struggling..) and I am in the making of a website for my portfolio.

I would love some ideas for types of websites to create for me to implement on my portfolio. I am thinking;
Do you have any other ideas or inputs?

WordPress is daunting for a first time beginner. I highly recommend that you do a few courses first. Also only get themes from reliable sources as WordPress is one of the most popular scripts and as such very vulnerable to hacking. You have to know what you are doing.

Suggest you think of doing these courses, but there are many others in YouTube too. Why I recommend the course below is I took it and learned everything I needed to know as well as a source to refer back to. I started with the free tutorials first. Then signed up for a beginner's course and then took it further. There is also a dedicated e-commerce course:

It depends if you are a web developer or a web designer, however your portfolio can have the made up designs/websites as long as it shows your skills when creating it, because if this is your first portfolio I dubt that you will have some paid projects to showcase.

I agree with a lot of what folks have been posting here already. Wordpress though user friendly with the interface, there are a lot of different plugins and "aftermarket" scripts that can be added if you know what you're doing and looking for. With my design business I have my front-end portfolio which is what everyone sees, it has a blog, my portfolio and a listing of services that I provide as a designer and developer. One thing I am going to implement when I have better hosting is an eCommerce page where I can post designs that I've made for prints and so on. You can show off your skills and abilities within the main page itself, then making a sub section where you show off themes and unique to you services that you've created and can switch between themes and different element's you've created.

It sounds like you are on a good path now, one ting that I had to realize when I was first starting off was to start small. Trying to take steps bigger then you are capable of will only just burn you out and make it harder for you to find your stride and passion in the field. That sounds brilliant @tbelldesignco I once did a WordPress course - WPapprentice - with Kirk Biglione - a genuine 5-star WP specialist. I picked up during the course on weaknesses in WooCommerce and what you say above makes great sense to me. If you could contribute to a design that can take care of some of the flaws that would be awesome for sure.

@Genesis for sure! One thing I have been trying to learn and get in better practice of is developing extensions, plugins and themes for Wordpress. I have a project for work that I am working on now that I would love to use Wordpress as the base for and then develop a theme that works well for what I need. I just need to actually sit down and see how that really works and then work on creating a text editor like Divi or WP Bakery that provides some of the same great functionality those powerhouses do.
