Do we have any users of IFTTT ( "IFTTT is an abbreviation of "If This Then That") here on Gigarank?

IFTTT is a free web-based service that allows users to create chains of simple conditional statements, called "recipes", which are triggered based on changes to other web services such as Gmail, Facebook, Instagram, and Pinterest. IFTTT is an abbreviation of "If This Then That".

I have started to play around with IFTTT to automate some of my tasks for social media and seo purposes. I'm still new to the concept, although I do believe it has lot's of potential for saving time.

You do now. I just signed up. This service looks really interesting. I look forward to seeing what kind of modules will crop up around popular CMS to expand upon this service.

I just signed up as well! I am a certified storm chaser and it would be awesome if there was more features on the weather. I may get a hold of them to see if they can add this. I would really use this, and if they can add the feature as to the Severe Weather Outbreak, I know quite a few people who would even pay for this app.

Right now I just made a recipe for craigslist.

I have a buddy who does scrap metal and is frequently checking craigslist for new postings. Using IFTTT maybe I can help him save some time by having an email alert every time a new posting is made, without actually having to check for it.

I like the idea of RSS to social media. For example a new thread on these forums would automatically get aggregated to Facebook and Twitter. Could help with increasing website traffic.

I've seen plugins for some CMS that do the same thing but it's nice to have a centralized service that can take care of all of it, especially so painlessly, almost without effort. Last time I tried to implement that level of functionality in wordpress it took at couple hours to set up, and then facebook changed their API and it all went away.

I saw on another forum where there was a discussion about using ifttt with uptimerobot to send a text/call alert in event of server downtime.

Has anyone else tried testing this service on gigarank's shared hosting?

I tried it first on a wordpress blog I use for testing using a vps with freenom domain. It connected right away with no problems.

Happy with the test results, I set up a new facebook page for my gigarank blog and went to set it up for production but I hit a snag along the way. For some reason ifttt is unable to connect directly to my blog. I've triple checked all the credentials and they're all correct.

I'm not sure what could be causing this and ifttt's troubleshooting/support page offers very little advice. I'm wondering if it could have something to do with cloudflare or if theres access rules on gigarank's service preventing the connection, or whether it's just something wrong with ifttt's service.

I did manage a workaround though, posting to facebook page through RSS rather than posting directly from a blog user. The service is a bit slow for the modern age. I waited 5 minutes for the posts to go through, then went for lunch. When I came back ~45 mins later the facebook page was successfully updated.
