There are so many ways to increase your site traffic depending on why you need traffic. For example if you are using Google AdSense then you have to be very careful about your traffic source. I would only stick with mainly search engine and social media traffic. But for affiliate programs and other things like Amazon or even for your own products you can use all types of traffic.
These are easy and best free traffic sources I can think of.
- Search Engine Traffic
- Social Media like Facebook, Twitter, Pinterest
- Video sites like Youtube
- Popular social bookmarking sites like Stumbleupon
- Forums
- From Blog commenting

Ahh I remember that forum. Not 10 years but it's like 13 years old !! I think I joined it like 8 years ago, used it for a while and then lost interest because forum started going though inactive period.
That article is good. Lots of basics are there but some of those stuff related to Google are too outdated. After all that post was written in 2002 !!!!

Organic search is a good way, but it requires lots of work and is actually really difficult.
Social media is also possible, but there's lots lots of work on that one too.

The best way to generate traffic is sharing the link for your site. Use twitter, facebook, contact other websites and ask them to add a link to your site. Use META TAGS in your code so search engines pick up your site. use keywords like porn, sex, hacks, virus, celeberties. Or other words that users search for daily. Its how those people who charge you to get you traffic do it.
The more traffic you get, the higher ranking you get on a search engine index.
This is the lesson I learned from our owner at Gigarank as well. By the way, any tips for beefing up twitter and Facebook? Without creating the image of spamming? Traffic and CTR/Conversion rate are totally different things. traffic is getting visitors to your page. once a visitor is on your page you have to think about CTR (Click through rate) and Conversion rate.
If it's AdSense then you have to make the visitor click advertisement naturally. You can all kind of tricks to make a visitor click ads but again thats why so many publisher get kicked out of the program. It's not just about clicking likes and making money. It doesn't work that way. At least not long term.
Now if it's an affiliate site or Amazon site then it become even more complicated. CTR is not enough here like with AdSense. visitor has to go there are buy something. only then we earn money. That's when Conversion rate comes to play. We have to prep visitors mind so she/he would buy something. We have to create content keeping this in mind. For example there is a difference between someone who search for "Canon Cameras" and "Canon EOS 7D Review". There is very little chance of first guy buy anything but in second case there is very good chance he would buy something.
Lets say you send Chinese traffic to AdSense site where you have "New York Car Insurance" ads, You will get your AdSense account deleted soon.
So it's not like you are going to earn money when come on comes to your site and click on ads. It's lot more complicated than that.
In my experience Google do care about Content. I never care about theories and opinions. If you want to know something for sure then you have to give it a try and find out. So I can tell you Search Engines do care about content. I earn most of my income from AdSense and Amazon sites so I have to keep an close eye on Google and its algorithm.
I have tested this last year and this site earn around $50 per month from Amazon till to date. You can rank in Google without a single backlink, only with quality content. Actually if you know how to use content then you can get indexed your pages within 48 hours. It's no rocket science but it need time and work.
In my experience, this is something I totally avoid. Keywords like porn and sex are too competitive and waste of time. Too hard for rank for these and also Google filter these adult and harmful type keywords from search. Google has something called "Safe Search" on. they automatically customize your search result depending on your search patterns. If you are someone who search for porn often then it start showing porn sites in your result and if you are someone who search baby stuff, kids thing etc it does their best to keep these out of result.
What really works is trying long tail keywords and Buyers Keywords. Basically Keyword research is one of most important things in site building.
well there are methods we use to get a quick buck. We setup a website use blackhat methods to earn fast and then drop the site. we call it Churn and Burn. But if you want long term income then it's different.

Aha, that's where those very long and convoluted ads come from. The ones that get your attention with a buzz ad line link like: "four best foods to avoid when you want to prevent hair loss", and you click on the link. Then you start to go through the first page of info - still no food names - then the second page of info - still no food names - and then eventually it tells you about a source of information, and still no food names - and then how much it costs - still no food names - and then the wonderful discount - and still no food names - and you then land at where you have to register or something idiotic like that, and buy the info.xdude said:

You are listening to the wrong people.Google doesn't care about content nor does any other search engine. They are based on key words. Google filters nothing. The filters are based on how you use google. Prime example, you can place a blank index page filled with META tags and get thousands of hits a day with no content. More traffic, the higher your ranking. $50 a month is not worth my time. $50 a day, might intrigue me. Adsense is a scam and only owner makes money all the other stuff is BS.

Actually this is something easy for anyone to test. Why not just make a black page with meta tags and see how it work ? If you have free shared hosting account here then use it and show us getting 1000's of hits.
If it work it would be great! I wouldn't won't spend countless ours creating content and doing other seo work.
Google doesn't care about meta tags or any other search engines. Actually I only use meta description tag just before Google use it for search result descriptions. Google used meta tags like 10-12 years ago. Everyone has moved on from those to other factors. If Google is that simple or stupid nobody would bother about seo or about all those Google Algorithm updates.
Well that's good money for me, specially it comes without lots of work. Plus one of my usual methods is when I get $50 -$100 from one site then I reuse that model for 10 sites. That's my main method actually, it works better than complete for high competitive niches.
I guess you are one of those got kicked out of Adsense. If your idea of getting traffic is with blank pages with no content then I wouldn't be surprised about it. I have been using AdSense since 2005 and earn around $500 a month. Not much maybe in your eyes but good enough for me since I do minimum work.
Anyway if you really believe meta tags and blank pages rank and AdSense is a scam the no point of arguing about it. I don't know if you have sites or earn from those but clearly you are doing something else than what I do so it's a waste to argue about.
