You'd be surprised to hear how many aren't jailbroken. Particularly because of the warranty, but also out of fearfulness. I.e. there's a lot of money that is invested in purchasing a phone like this so those who don't know how it fits together try not to fiddle with it too much.

On the topic of "jail broken" here in the Middle East "jail broken" is an almost "foreign" concept. Very rarely that a phone would be locked in. First time I learned about "jail broken" was in Canada two years ago when my regular old cell phone would not work with roaming and I had to get a "new phone". Since the new phones were horribly expensive and the packages that they were locked in with just too unrealistic for just a short holiday, in the end I found myself checking through second hand phones that had been "jail broken" somewhere in the back streets of Ottawa. Ended with a Motorola. And got a pre-paid "chat" card. Couldn't believe this locking in of phones however. All major phones in Canada are locked in with special packages of the major Canadian service providers, so as to protect their business from the US. Makes it horribly expensive for Canadians. But like everywhere else in the world for those who can't afford it, there's always a Plan B somewhere. I felt lucky, as the store where I got my Motorola had plenty of other really cheap products. Also an interesting environment to hang out in, away from the "tourists".

People are buying expensive iPhones/iPads and can't afford to buy games on it, so thats why they are jailbreaking, to gain an advantage of free games. As far as I know jailbreak is only for iPhones/iPads and for Sony PS3. It was used for unlocking phones, thats true but only for certain firmwares and now it's impossible to unlock your phone with jailbreak. People are jailbreaking it to have an access to root like on Android, because it's the way you can get different themes, mods and tweaks.

Well they're doing it in Canada, but not regular people. Usually serious tech specialists who do it in order to make a second hand phone for sale.
