Joomla surprise for the day!

Looks interesting. Automated disposable quickie Joomla Websites. Trying to figure it out but looks as though it is a Siteground/Joomla project. It is free with limited options trying to get a person to get a paid site with them. Have checked it out and doesn't look as though it comes with a backup feature for the free version any way. I doubt this is for making serious Websites.

Aha .... now I see how it works. It's a marketing gimmick for Siteground and Joomla.org. You upgrade and you're no longer with joomla.com but with Siteground. One of the things I hate about this is not being open and honest from the get go. Trying to copy Weebly, without being Weebly and having to figure out what it all means.

I think it is more about promoting Joomla and Siteground than "selling" a product. It's a marketing tool.

I've been working with it for fun. Not that bad. But definitely not for a serious Website though. I still have to figure out how one makes a backup of the Website though.

Hmm, I think it's common for a lot of the lower-tier free hosting services to not offer backups, although I haven't used any of them in years, so things might have changed. I guess it's a way to hook people into using their hosting.

Absolutely. And I'm not so sure people will really be hooked. The templates aren't that great looking, and one can't modify the templates. Anyway, it was interesting to check out. I'm very happy with where I am. I doubt I'll get into pure Joomla soon. It's just too time consuming to get to grips with it to make it a worth it for me.

Ironically there is nothing of real Joomla in the basic Websites. Just look alike limited Joomla functions.

I've used siteground for many websites. I don't mind their services at all... now Joomla.. that's a different story.

That's really odd! I would think that they would at least want people to get used to using Joomla. If it's not even real Joomla, that's pretty sad. What good is it if people get used to using a dumbed down CMS?

True. I felt it right through. The Website is not open and honest about what its intentions are. It ropes you in, and you only learn what the intentions are when you're half way in. One then carries on as one hopes it is going to come up with something interesting. But then fails with the very sparse offering of limited option templates. The rest works well. Logging in and getting the space works very fast. But getting the Website to look like something is where the challenge lies. Templates can't be modified.
