Looking for PHP Chat software!

Very simple, not asking for someone to make it (although it would be very popular), just asking for people to hunt it down!

I'm looking for PHP & MySQL based chat software that follows the parameters below:

- Channel based
- Multi-user with registration
- live/AJAX (this is a must)
- Various groups
- Ability to create "shared" channels that only certain users/nicknames can enter
- Ability to add/remove groups and change permissions (such as the ability to create channels)
- online user list

To sum it up, a simpler, open source discord/irc like software.

Not essential:

- various commands
- nickname changing
- emoticons
- status for users (away/dnd/invisible)

I'm dirt poor, so not much I can offer for tracking such a thing down, maybe a virtual high-five. The main use for such a software would be client communication for a service I run. I need to be able to make channels only the team-members and one client can join.

Man, after hours of search, of course my luck, I find something 2 minutes after posting here!

http://www.ajaxchat.org/

this allows you to join "rooms" but the rooms cannot be listed by anyone. So, create a room with a random name, thats basically a password.

and before people reply,

https://frug.github.io/AJAX-Chat/ will not work
phpfreechat will not work

What did you try? Since you claim they aren't working, the steps you took is needed as knowledge.

Yes sorry I was not specific about those.

The github AJAX Chat did not work because you had to manually edit config files to add/remove channels/users. There was no built in registration option or option for admins to create channels from within the software.

PHPFreeChat I am pretty sure doesn't have multi channel/user. I think it's aimed towards a forum shoutbox sort of deal.

http://ajaxchat.org/ appears to be what I need. Allows registration, you can create channels (without there being a channel list, which means they are secret), and it is responsive so it can work on mobile, or be used for a shoutbox on the forum :)

Why use a web chat app?
I think whatsapp/telegram or similar chats app can satisfy your needs.

The idea is to have a website, not an application. And one that I can modify to my needs.

Can't really go wrong with a website. Every device will support it.
