Microsoft Edge

Has anyone had any issues with Microsoft Edge?

I know that in the past I have always had problems with Internet Explorer, especially when designing web pages. Internet Explorer was always behind in following the W3C standards in comparison to the other major browsers. I have not read anything about the status of the latest Microsoft Edge. Is Microsoft Edge any closer to being compliant with the W3C standards than Internet Explorer?

IE is not behind on anything. Coders don't know how to code correctly for IE. All the little boys and girls use FF when they coded and thought everyone used FF. But, there is a bit of code that needs to be added to the CSS and you site will look the same in all browser. But the wantabe coders don't know how to do this. W3C standards mean nothing any ways. My site was built to w3c standards and 2 months later, it was broken again. So who cares about w3c, its for the sloppy coders any way.

Thanks for your input Strokerace. I can certainly understand your point of view. However, standards are put in place for a reason, to provide some sort of order in the chaos. Without order, the web browsers available would be even more difficult to manage. Internet Explorer has always lagged behind when it comes to the W3C standards, though I understand that none of the browsers strictly follow all of the standards. Though you don't think the standards are necessary, many web developers may disagree with you.

I have used Microsoft Edge for few months before I got really tired of it as it was constantly freezing and restarting and switched to Google Chrome.

It is a kind of good web browser, specially for reading stuff where it has an amazing reading-mode which is good for reading and its better than one in FF.

It meant to have compatibility to run extensions from FF and Firefox, but it never happened. You might become tired of all advertisements floating all over websites and on live streams when you are watching them.

Besides from the problems which is expected for a new browser. Id edge any good? Personally I have never tried it and I don't really intend to because I don't really see the need to change browse. Chrome and FF are already pretty decent. Is there any unique features which are not present in other browsers?

There are several new features in Edge that make it better than IE, but some of those features already exist in other browsers like FF and Chrome.

Edge supports Browser Extensions, something that other browsers already supported. It is claimed that developers would only have to make minor changes to extensions written for FF and Chrome in order for them to work with Edge. I am not sure how true that is, however.

If you like Siri on the iPhone or even voice assistant programs like Jeanie on the Android, then you might enjoy using Cortana. Edge is integrated with the Cortana app. This is actually something that bothers me to a degree because I prefer to use Chrome, and Chrome is not compatible with Cortana. Therefore, I am not able to set Chrome as the default app for Cortana without causing glitches.

There have been changes to the New-Tab page which suggest not only top sites, but also apps, weather, sports scores, and videos. This does not sound like a feature to me, but maybe it is useful to others.

Edge has a feature called Reading Mode which allows you to remove the extra garbage from a webpage and focus on the main text. This feature has already been made available in other browsers.

One feature that is not available in other browsers (at least not to my knowledge) is Page Annotations. Edge allows you to highlight or draw on webpages and share the images in email or in social apps.

I have read that Edge does not appear as IE to websites and therefore websites are more likely to work the same as Firefox, Chrome and Safari. Edge will (or does) support Object RTC and WebRTC.

I personally do not like the look and feel of Edge. I still prefer Chrome or Firefox.

As far as I'm aware of (and I know this because I've used WebRTC in my own code,) Object RTC and WebRTC are two different things. Meaning that they are not inter-operable (for the moment at least.) WebRTC started first as a Google's project then got promoted and was adopted by the W3C (its draft here).

ORTC, on the other hand is M$ own implementation and only Edge is supporting it.
