Hi Gigarank members,
for my home page i created two small different layout, can you please share your opinions & suggestions. And select ONE.

Ideas are,
1. one page
2. flat colors
3. very simple

for the 1st one, just used a wordpress theme and played with colors.
for the 2nd (my favorite) with my own idea.

On these two layouts please dont care the words(typograpy letters) but your share the comment for fonts. All to modify ones selected to finalized.
layout one (1)
layout two (2)

please post your favorite on your comments
Need someone for small photoshop work, just colors to modify on the psg and png files, any volunteer here? will be appriciated. sorry for the very bad english.

Although they are wordpress, I like layout two better. The first one looks too n00bish and like the other 30 million sites out there.

Have you thought about using something other then word press?
Maybe is just me being old school and don't like the plainness and boring scripts of a prefab sites

First of all thanks strokerace, for the comment.

I tried joomla, bootstrap and html, but i choose the wordpress for simplycity, faster and the important reason is future upgrade of a site.

If you don't have time then Word Press is better BUT in the long term it probably will eat more time and resources as you can never really leave a Word Press site for weeks to look after itself. You have to look after it every day, and load as many security plugins as you can, as Word Press is a very popular hacker script target. All those plugins take a lot of resources too, so if you are away from your Website for a long time, there is a good chance when you come back that it has been suspended, because of a security plugin that had to fend off ddos attacks and that sent your bandwidth or disk space through the roof.

In my experience Joomla is bad for e-mails. It also needs to be updated all of the time for security vulnerabilities. Out of date Joomla scripts may also lead to suspension when especially the e-mail accounts are hacked. Hackers have found a Joomla vulnerability whereby it can use the admin e-mail account to send bulk spam mail by the thousands, also sending the bandwidth and disk space through the roof.

But you don't need to use their email features as all hosting package give you email accounts already that have nothing to do with what you are using for your site.

Its not just wordpress and Joomla that need to be updated all the time. Even Vbulletin and phpbb have issues. Even coding from scratch can have issues if you are careful with your code. Seeing I use php and mysql in my site, I use a addon for firefox to check for sql injection weaknesses. So far, it passes. It used to drive me crazy checking all of those security sites and XSS and looking to see if my code was affected. Then trying to rewrite it if it was affected.

But I did find that prefab scripts were the worst for security issues. I bet over 40% of the sites out there use wordpress and that is why hackers like to play with it.

True. But that usually happens to people who aren't that aware. They think they're not using their hosting account email account, and then the hacker does it for them. And the advice usually is to not use the e-mail feature. Must say it has completely put me off Joomla as well.

True.

Agreed. But it is also easier to hack than most sites. Security plugins these days aren't a luxury any longer. Don't know what I'd do without my WordFence and Bruteprotect. They're usually the first two plugins I load after I started a new WordPress website.

I prefer layout 1, mainly because it has a clearly defined color scheme, and all of the animated elements on layout 2 are kind of overpowering.
Layout 1 could use something to make it stand out though. Maybe something like a light background texture, and a more distinctive heading font, or something. Great job on both of them though!
