I love retro themes, but depending on the website purpose, if they would fit in or not, however you can make a retro website to fit as old school and for creativity as well as the innovation to make sure that the website would be unique.

Like @"GigaGreg" said retro themes can work as long as it is fits the topic. If you have a vintage theme for a technology site they don't really work well with each other. This is very important to get correct because you do not want to put viewers off from your website.
