Prince Friso of the Netherlands died today, he is a younger brother from our King

Does he get a special funeral? I know he won't get a big state one, but does he get a mini-funeral?

I think it will be a big one, not sure yet as the King isn't back from his holiday in Greese yet.

I've never understood why people revere their monarchy in the modern age. These are people who basically no longer run the country but are just symbols of where the country came from and these people are getting paid to basically do nothing but be celebrities. It wouldn't be so annoying, except that these kings and queens are getting paid by your tax dollars.

Maybe it's a Europe/Asia thing?

Could be because there is much income that comes from Royalty. I'd imagine the birth of Georgie in England must have created plenty of money making opportunities for many people. Sort of a myth that works for now any way.

True, tourism does bring in a lot. But asides from the British royal family, I don't really think any other monarch figure is likely to get that much attention. I honestly can't remember any other country's king & queen (mostly because they don't get any media attention like the UK's queen & family do).
