Self-Driving Cars: Amazing or Accident-prone?

Self-driving cars have made a lot of strides since they were first introduced, with even traditional car companies getting in the game. Uber started using self-driving cars for mapping, and it seems like many tech companies are reportedly trying to build self-driving cars, yet the cars have also had their share of accidents, with reports from Google & Tesla shedding doubt about upon the question of whether riding in the cars would be safe. What do you think? Are self-driving cars the way of the future or something best left alone? Would you buy one if they became affordable?

I am not interesting in buying it, that would be like trusting your life to the machine.
Have not you watched all the robot movies? The robot turn out killing humans.

I love the idea of cars that drive us around but I emjoy driving too much to buy one, it'd' basically be like a 5 seater train.
Practically I don't think a serious amount of money, enough to advance it to the stage to make it reality will be plowed into this tech because the future of transport is too unknown & unless everyone owns a self driven vehicle it wouldn't work, because you can't have automated cars on the road with manual ones, the risk of human error would be too high the only way it could work is if we built seperate automated roads & highways, who funds that?
I'd prefer digital quantum teleportation by way of uploading our consciousness to the net!

So to the fact of me wanting auto pilot car, maybe, I love the idea of getting rat faced somewhere far, pushing a button and waking up in my garage or carport, but if I was in any other condition, hell no, I have enough issues when other people drive me, now I must let a computer drive me somewhere.
Well maybe the computer can use a simulated driver ..... that could be yourself. Guess everything is possible once one gets down to it.

I would trust myself with a self driving car. It would feel safer if all the cars were self driving though. That way you wouldn't have to worry about some idiot pile driving into you.

I would like myself to drive the car.I cant believe on a machine to protect my life.If some hacker would hack that car and mislead and finish how would that be i would die so i believe myself in driving a car!

Self-driving cars would be amazing once they get in full swing. There would be far less accidents once it gets going, and while hacking is a concern, I'm sure security isnt being neglected. The potential is incredible. I don't understand people who do not support them, it's like pilots opposing auto-pilot. Why? It eases everything.

I Think that 'Self-Driving Cars' can be the baddest thing ever in the world!
When there is an accident, Who is at fault? A robot??? Good Joke!

I guess you've never been to a Hospital. :p

Personally, i would trust a self-driving car with my life. From the research that I've seen from the accidents that did happen, it was the people in other cars fault and not actually the self-driving car. Although Uber has had a few incidents of self-driving cars running red lights. I guess it depends on what self-driving car was talking about, some might be more reliable than others. I would trust google's self-driving car once it gets developed more and polished.

I've ridden in my buddy's Tesla - have to say, it's pretty badass..

They've really upgraded their software to do things like stop if a kid runs out into the road, recognize road hazards and stop signs, etc.

I can tell you this - the accelleration factor on a Tesla is, quite frankly, almost insane. And it's worth getting one (if you can afford it) almost just for that!

But, I like to go fast...

there is already a heavy reliance on robots in everyday life especially in medicine where machines are used a lot. A self-driving car can remove all the problems that a human has. If an accident did happen the company would be to blame who supplied the car because they did not think about the problem during development.

It is definitely an interesting idea, self driving cars, but really I think they are intended to replace people who drive delivery trucks which is kind of sad... I wonder what those people will do? Not that they can't learn skills for another sector just... Automation is strange. I think sometimes I was born in between two eras. Automation should free people up to do really great things with their minds instead of manual labour but it remains to be seen whether or not that will happen.

That's probably the one big flaw of self-driving cars. All drivers will eventually be unemployed, and their skills will become worthless. Once automation like this really begins, countries would take very different policies on it, depending on their unemployment rates. In a world without currency, automation would be utopic. But in this world, it'll be paradise for the rich and hell for the poor, and the population is ever-rising. Automation shouldn't really be pushed anywhere, it should replace manual labour naturally, over quite a long time.

I'd say that I don't fully trust AI. Here's the thing: Humans are prone to mistakes, AI created by humans, therefore AI prone to mistakes.

If the car fully takes control on driving and navigating through the roads, I don't even want to enter the car. It's just too scary to let something brainless to take control of the car. I know that AIs are getting smarter everyday, but I just don't really trust them to handle everything. Though, I'm okay if they're there just so they can assist me if something bad happens.
