Some feedback

Hello,

I have been invited to your forums by user Deanhills from another webhosting portal to submit some ideas for your logo design. Here I come, and hopefully will stay for some time!

Unfortunately, I have been struggling with some problems on your forums.

First, and probably most important, as it could be some security issue, there login system and/or cookies on main forum page (ht-tp://www.gigalicous.com/forum/). When I try to log-in with the panel on the top on that page or I log-in somewhere else and then come to the menitoned main forum page, it always behaves as I were not logged-in; instead of profile data, there is always "Hello displaying on top. In fact, I am logged in and when I browse any other content on the forum, top panel properly displays "Welcome back [...]". I have tried to reset cookies and reload the forums completely but it does not help. It was frustrating when I was not aware that it is just a bug and I thought that I am being logged-out all the time.

Secondly, I got a feeling that the 10 post limit is applied everywhere on the forums. When I tried to post my suggestions for the logo, I was not able to do this neither here [h-ttp://www.gigarocket.net/forum/thread-1282-page-2.html], nor here [h-ttp://www.gigarocket.net/forum/thread-1338-post-10763.html#pid10763]. Well, I do understand that it is just a passive spam fighting method, but it is kind of disturbing when I have to write 10 posts on forum when I just want to contribute with my ideas about graphic design. Also, it would be far, far better, if there was a notification about restriction before writing a post, not after attempting to submit it. That is a minor issue, as pretty most of the users that really want to use this forum will just submit those 10 posts, but you may want to consider my suggestion.

The last thing is that when I once tried to post a message with tags in it, there appeared a error "You cannot post clickable links to this forum threads and posts."

That is all, so far. Thanks for reading!

Regards,
Greg

Edit
The first point probably causes the browser not to remember that I rolled some sections of the forums up as well; all the sections become uncollapsed when I reload the page.

Thank you for the feedback Gregoric . I'll see whether I can answer your inquiries as best as I can. Bear in mind two things that may be responsible for this. The first one is that we've had a brand change from gigalicous to gigarank as recent as 31 January. And the staff are still connecting everything up properly. So hope you can bear with us on that one. The second is that our Tech Admin is very security conscious and all links have been disabled for the first 5 posts. We realize this is a bit irritating, but it is to combat spam. Hopefully you will get to five posts in no time.

You're right about this. If I by accident type www.gigalicous.com instead of www.gigarocket.net, then the same thing happens when I log in. I'll ask our owner whether the log-in for Gigalicous could automatically redirect to Gigarank if possible.

Good feedback. I've moved the thread about the Brainstorm Drawing Board to the Web Development & Graphic Design / Graphic Design & Image Manipulation sub-forum. So you should be able to post your feedback now.

With regard to the Competitions Sub-Forum, this is also good feedback. Obviously we don't want people to be able to post their own threads in the Competitions Sub-Forum as that is mostly for the owner to do. What we've done is to create a sub-forum for the logo competition so that those who wish to compete can submit their own threads. Perhaps you can put your user name in the topic of the thread as well as the Number of your entry. (3 entries are allowed)
With regard to wanting advance notification about number of posts needed for links and signatures to be enabled, this has now been included with the Welcome PM.

I will be looking into the redirection issues today and update the Tapatalk connections.

Oh, that is the cause! I did not notice that the top-left logo redirects the user to the old address! That explains everything. Also, thanks for such fast reply and intervention about the graphics submissions.

I will be looking into the redirection issues today and update the Tapatalk connections.
That would be great, as the incorrect redirection may be misleading for some newcomers (like me :)).

The same issue with Gigarank/Gigalicious appears to be cause of error popping-up when trying to enter "Client Area" and "Domains" sections. You are probably aware of this issue, but I just thought to let you know.

What I would like to see on GIgarank is a blogging system, that would allow users to submit posts outside forums categories. Those blog entries would be listed in user's profile and "new posts" categories to let other users comment or discuss on them. The layout might resemble the one of testimonials panel.

I have found something like this, but I am not use whether it works or not at the moment: ht-tp://client.gigarocket.net/knowledgebase.php?action=displayarticle&id=8

Secondly, are you working on some signature generator so that it would present recent Gigarank's statistics or something likely? I wanted to create such a thing myself and present to you but I thought it is better to ask you firstly to not duplicate such a feature.

When it comes to the posting panel, I have never used the left-hand emoticon menu and I suppose that there are far more users like me. If you had some time to implement such a feature, why wouldn't you allow to hide it from user view leaving only the textarea to write post's content? That's a very low-priority suggestion but still, I would like to see it :)

The last suggestion for today would be to re-design the top-right panel to make it more readable. Currently it looks like that:
Welcome back New Posts (38) | Alerts (0) | Private Messages (Unread 0, Total 6)

What I suggest is to make the last visited date more user friendly (like 2 days ago) or just to simplify it only to date without hour. About the private messages, it would be nice to leave only the unread messages amount. Alerts could show up only when there are some present (now, there is 0). And, what is the most important, enlarge the font a bit! After the suggested changes, it could have looked like that:
Welcome back, Gregoric. You last visited us on 02-10-2014 New Posts (38)

Thanks for reading!

There is some great suggestions for us to think about there!

I personally like the idea of user blogs, I think there is a myBB addon for that, it`s something we need to look into.

After seeing your idea here, DJB, I have a suggestion for you to reate some way to allow users to communicate in real time. A simple web AJaX chat client would do the thing, as would some IRC channel. Don't you think that is a needed feature, especially in the light of upcoming community collaboration? :)
