Spam bots

Hi all,

Loads and loads of spam bots register at my forums lately, about 10 per hour.
But I don't really care about them as they can't do anything.
I have restricted the new members from posting links untill they have 5 forum posts.
But do this spam bot profiles harm my SEO in any way?

They are only draining your bandwith. If your server coming down then it will make real visitor or member annoying about it.

I think they do, particularly since they probably attract other spam bots as well and put off the people you really want to register at your Website. Could also be a problem for getting your Website blacklisted.

Have you tried to use questions during registration? Like after the captcha at myBB (and I'm sure at vBulletin), you can create one or more questions for the registrant to answer that are unique and bots won't be able to see. The easiest is an arithmetic question on a revolving basis, a new one every time. In phpBB one can put in limitless questions that would revolve so they're always fresh.
