Warning. Windows 7 and 8 users. Windows 10 being downloaded in the back ground

I just saw this article about windows 10 being downloaded without your knowledge.
This article was in my facebook news feed. I can confirm it is happening. I had issues with updating windows 7 about the same time windows 10 came out. I also found out that windows 10 servers were being over loaded with all the windows 10 updates. A few weeks later, my updates returned. In the mean time, I turned off windows update when I noticed it was taking up a good chunk of my ram. Internet and computer was acting slow and my fan went from normal speed to very highspeed. I was not using any programs other then firefox with 2 or 3 tabs open. No other programs in the background. Found it was due to Svhost and windows update. I set the service to manual as I can look for updated if need be. But, the last few days, I found that in services, windows update was started even though I didn't start it. It was still set to manual. I now disabled it. At the time I found the articles. I also gained 2 gigs of hard disk space after. Not sure where the files where being stored.
I will give you all the facebook links and you can look at them all, not just 1. They all have different information that you should be aware of.
This is what one article talks about here

Under its default settings, Windows 10 tracks the way users type, what applications they use, their browsing history and other personal information.

Good to know! Here's an article on how to remove the download for those who don't want it.

EDIT: BTW, the Facebook link you posted isn't working for me. Could you re-post it?

It seems to work for me. It could be blocked in your region though or they have something different. It was just a bunch of articles of news agency's who have facebook pages.

Here are some of the direct links off of the list

There are more, but most are about the same as these

Thanks! Hmm, I'm in the US, and I kept getting a "The page you requested was not found." error. Anyway, the links look useful! The Windows 10 privacy software one of them mentioned looks like it could be especially useful. Bookmarking it now in case I ever need to get a PC with Windows 10.

It is start to prove my theory that M$ want to monitor what you do on the internet. Its why they are giving it away for free. And why they are forcing it to be downloaded. Its exactly something that they did in a movie. I wish I remembered the name of it. But they had everyone download some software and at a certain time, the executed it. I think it was in the new terminator movie. Although its not going to take over the world, they are watching you, taking your information and most likely sending to NSA or another government office.

Windows Update already downloads a lot of things without asking, so is it really a huge deal if it downloads the Windows 10 installer as well? A few GB isn't that much nowadays. It certainly speeds up the installation process if you decide to install Windows 10, instead of having to sit hours waiting for it to download.

I'm not a big fan of automatic updates and doing things behind the back of the user but remember Windows are mostly for people that doesn't know computers very well and asking them to make decisions they don't understand is maybe not always such a good idea. I'm saying this, because I don't think Microsoft's doing it all for evil reasons.

Some of what you say makes good sense Peter, but Microsoft's intentions for some of the updates isn't always very honorable. Neither is Google's. They are huge corporations doing what they are doing for making money. Usually means they have to sway users to their way with maximum investment, or try and find out as much as they can about their users.

Although I partially agree that your average Windows User is not that IT tech savvy, I think that's been changing fast over the last years. Particularly when it has become fashionable to get to know how Linux works. People still want their Linux with a "Windows" interface, but since they have a better idea of what is happening behind Windows now they are demanding more from MS Windows. All one has to do is look at some of the Microsoft discussion forums and it gives a good picture of how more tech savvy your average Windows has become. Think there is a saying you can fool some of the the people most of the time but not all of the people all of the time.

Guess again. read the articles and you will see a different story. They are also gathering information about every where you go on the net. They are logging keystrokes etc. This bypasses any proxy, VPN etc used to hide on the internet. True, those in the know will disable all of this. But what if you are doing it from someone elses computer? You now put them at risk. I have for years with every O/S I have used is to beat it into submission and make sure no one can hack me, or track me. Sure, the info that they gather may be kept to themselves, but you don't know that. Sure, I don't do anything illegal any more, but that's not the point. Its against the law and is an invasion of privacy. This is why the U.S and Canada passed a bill to allow any agency to have access to your internet doings. I think it was 3 months after it was passed into law, that M$ offered free windows 10 upgrades.

FYI, its not a small amount of HD space. It 4 gigs. More space you use, the slower you computer will react. Also, what about laptops? They don't always have very large HD's. I have 250 gigs. Its running at 75% capacity right now. In total, I have 2tb of hard drive capacity between all my space and computers. Each one is 50% or more filled. So, how is it not a big deal?

Yea it secretly and slowly downloads into your computer. Sometimes even auto installs as some people we're complaining in Microsoft forums

There is not much you can really do to stop and avoid windows 10 they are always going to push it and force it onto us. I downloaded windows 10 because i may as well I only use it to play games I never use it for work on it or anything.

Why? I stopped it. You can stop it. Why play games? As it is right now, a lot of AV's don't work on windows 10. I haven't looked into it much yet. But I have seen several people post that AVG doesn't work on 10. There are other programs that don't work. Windows 10 is exactly the same as windows 8.1. But with weaker security and poor performance and commons programs don't work.

Works perfectly fine for me and I have had no problems with AVG. Everything seems to work for me. Games run smoothly and is better since I can easily use xbox one controllers on my PC since the drivers are already installed on it.

Window 7 does spy on you. But, I can tweek it and stop that. Can't in windows 10. I didn't have win 10 home edition. I had corp. As of right now, AVG may work, but its not a driver issue as there is no drivers for an AVG.

I don't pay for any software. I come from the time when everything on the net was for free and still believe in that. You also forget that I am into security.

To you it may be customizeable, but its not. Its still slow sluggish and windows 8.1 any way you slice it. It has no new features, none, zip, nada. The soul purpose of windows 10 is to be a huge trojan horse. Nothing more, nothing less. It logs and sends every key stroke and website you visit. It bypasses proxies and VPNs. So, its a violation everyone's right to privacy.
M$ and the government can get away with doing things like this because no one wants to stand up to them and people are say, oh well, what can we do. Its simple. Stop using their garbage.

Linux and Mac OS is not spying on you.

Some day, you will grow up and understand the meaning of life.

I have used xbox one controllers since 6 months after they came out.
