Probably windows server 2016 is the best one since it is the latest and improved version. But latest means it's bulky than the older versions so taking more resources like RAM. When I used 2008 Server one problem I had was always had to restart when I install something like .net frame work. Didn't have that problem in 2016. Its not a big issue or a problem.

Dear window server 2008 R2 is very good server you can easily operate him but windows 2016 is too much heavy and issue about .net frame work. I did also used windows server 2008 i didn't got any issue. May be you are doing someone wrong

By far I have used windows server 2008 r2 and windows server 2012 r2 I would recommend windows server 2012 because of the Storage pool. It's more likely the LVM we use in Linux. Haven't tried windows server 2016 yet.
